Joy, in the biblical sense, is not rooted in what’s going right around us. It doesn’t rise and fall with outcomes, seasons, or the ease of the road. Joy is a settled gladness of the soul, one that exists even when questions remain unanswered and circumstances feel uncertain.
“Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. And even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:8–9)
This kind of joy isn’t something we manufacture or force; it’s something we receive as we place our trust in Jesus. It’s the quiet confidence that He is present, working, and faithful, whether we can see it or not.
Joy like this holds us steady in waiting, gives us strength in hardship, and reminds us that our faith is producing something far greater than what this moment shows. Even when circumstances don’t change, joy can still remain, because it’s anchored in hope, sustained by trust, and secured in Christ.
