"I was good. ⁣

Until yesterday when stress hit me and I feel stiff like a board. Yesterday pure stress disconnected me from my body. ⁣

"This was the first time I've ever noticed stres in my body. ⁣

"Most people, I don't think actually notice stress in their bodies.⁣

"After the session I feel brand new."⁣

Stress is sometimes a thing I ask people about. ⁣

To us in the healthcare field we can often see stress showing up in people's bodies, but you probably don't feel it or see it because it's part of your everyday experience. ⁣

With your current degree of awareness you probably don't feel stress impact you, unless you've been in a huge incident, then it's obvious internally that things are off.⁣

Imagine, when you're stressed it's not only your brain or emotions that perceive it⁣

but your body reacts too.⁣

Learning tools to down-regulate are really important. ⁣

Definitely that is one thing that characterizes my work, but there's more. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

When people are having symptoms but tests, scans, and professionals aren't clear about what's going on⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

and they explain your issues with sophisticated medical language or from their specialized perspective even though⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
90-95% of the time pain issues aren't from serious medical problems,⁣ there's a disconnect. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
You should easily be able to understand what's going on. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

You deserve an explanation in logical everyday language. You deserve trememdous clarity about pain and even performance.⁣⁣⁣

Our brains will often normalize what's not normal. ⁣

And our brains can even be guilty of normalizing otherwise disturbing imbalances.⁣

A client first came in without really knowing what was wrong, but knew a lot needed to change. After only a few sessions here's what they said yesterday. ⁣

"Things are good. ⁣

"I used to feel like I was carrying around a dead leg, but now everything feels lighter. ⁣

"A lot of people on the courts have given me good feedback about looking a lot stronger these days."⁣

We and even those around us will often normalize things like heaviness, weakness, imbalance, etc. but when they're addressed it can be life changing. ⁣

Tension is like a slow smother. Like a slow strangle rather than a choke. So often we overlook the importance of adaptability and resilience, especially as our body-brain experience becomes more and more limited.⁣

People who come in to see me riddled with pain are often or were in the past very athletic. ⁣

The biggest problem I see in athletics is that we're really not taught how to use our bodies other than to move for our particular sport. ⁣

So you take that structure, literally you mold your body into the shape of your sport and your body becomes your tool. ⁣

And because you get pretty good at that or you really enjoy it, you strengthen that posture. In other words, you get stuck in it. And it limits you. And if you've done it enough then you can become almost fragile.⁣

So something like a sneeze sets off excruciating pain. Or with time you literally become unable to move. ⁣

Sports and activities are really good for us, obviously. But, after bringing exercise into our lives we need to begin to learn to move with functional anatomy in mind.

This will give you better overall health, the bility to move, and better access to new movement. ⁣

The holistic picture of history, movement, and patterns changes lives. ⁣

Today a man who could hardly walk when he came in said, Chris you gotta help me learn to run again. ⁣

He's been walking hills lately to really create pattern adaptation and he says, ⁣

I've even been jogging at the track with my kid. Even though I've been able to walk without pain for awhile now I've had a limp because of the tension in my hamstring but now it feels great. ⁣
