Today, January 23, 2026 is Maternal Health Awareness Day! The theme is "Holding Ground on Maternal Health" aiming to protect progress in reducing Maternal Mortality and improving care. For almost 30 years, Heart of Georgia Healthy Start has provided Maternal Health Services to communities within the South-Central Health District in Georgia. Our program will continue to provide these much needed services, and hopefully we will see the day when preventable Maternal Mortality and Morbidity has been completely eradicated.

Heart of Georgia Healthy Start along with 5 other Healthy Starts in Georgia make up the Georgia Healthy Start Collaborative. During the summer, our programs had the opportunity to create a video highlighting the services we provide. Angel Trees are out and ready for adoption, bringing hope to 294 kids on your Santa list this year. You can sponsor a child and make a difference in their lives. Find the Angel Trees at Dairy Queen, Dublin Mall, Brown and Co., Orr Insurance, and the Dublin Salvation Army.

Additionally, you can drop off toys at our Toys for Tots locations: State Broadcasting, the Bug House of Dublin, Best Buy of Dublin, and Ollies.

The deadline for donations is December 12th. Please return your unwrapped gift to the Dublin Salvation Army and help spread joy this holiday season. Thank you for your generous spirit!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.💜 We wear purple in honor of Dr. Keima Lattimore-Allen who is a survivor of domestic violence. She wrote a book and released it earlier this year called “The Uncaged Butterfly”. She is truly a walking testimony! To show your support, you can purchase her book off of Amazon. 💜

We had a great time at the National Healthy Start Grantee and NHSA Annual Meeting and Conference. There are 6 Healthy Start Sites in Georgia, and all were represented. We are hopeful that even in this political climate we can continue to provide the great and impactful services that our communities need surrounding Infant and Maternal Mortality!

Open House at Heart of Georgia Healthy Start was a great success on yesterday. We would like to thank everyone who supported this event to help bring awareness to Infant Mortality! In 2024 in Georgia, 871 babies died before their first birthday. In the SCHD according to Oasis, we only had 75 babies to die from years 2020-2024. This is important because it shows that the work Healthy Start, FAM, and other organizations are doing to reduce the chances of babies dying to soon is working.
