Today marks a special day in MedOne's history: Our Founder's Day.
MedOne was born out of the oldest continuously family-owned and operated pharmacy chain in the U.S. – Hartig Drug Company – which was started in 1904 and remains owned and operated by fourth-generation family members. The “Aha Moment” for MedOne came on April 16, 1999 when Hartig Drug’s CEO, Richard Hartig, noticed the pharmacy benefit invoice for the Hartig Drug self-funded health plan was substantially larger than what he was reimbursed on the same set of claims.
Fast forward, MedOne was established as a solution to the growing misalignment between plan sponsors and PBMs. Unlike traditional PBMs, which rely on increased utilization and spread pricing to drive their profits, MedOne’s mission was simple: empower the plan sponsor to take control of their pharmacy benefit by providing a 100% pass-through, transparent, and flexible solution, prioritizing the health outcomes of members and driving toward the lowest-net cost.
Today, while MedOne continues to grow in size and reach, our values remain the same by providing a full-service, member-centric, and clinically robust solution with convenient access to a directly owned network of 60,000 high-performing pharmacies.
