2016 was built different. You couldn’t pry Valencia filtered photos, infinity scarves, full glam makeup tutorials, posting for the fun of it, and choker necklaces from our cold, dead hands back then.

And everyone is loving this trend because it’s full of nostalgia and the joy of a lighter time in our lives. Most of us were just starting out, not sure what the future held or what tomorrow would even look like. But we had hope and eager anticipation.

📣PSA: Your therapist isn’t your friend. Read that again.

Your therapist isn’t your friend, and that’s a GOOD thing. They’re not meant to be. Your friends are there to support you, tell you how amazing you are and that you deserve the world. And you need that support from them. But that’s not helpful support from your therapist.

Your therapist is there to help you look inward. Realize patterns. Help you reflect on certain behaviors. Figure out what makes you tick. That work helps you figure out who you are and what you want out of life. It helps you set proper boundaries, stick up for yourself and stop doing things that aren’t productive or serve you in the long run.

No doubt you have friends in your life who will give you the honest truth when you need it. But they’re not there to help you do the deep work.

You need a therapist for that.
