Statement on IA CASA Closure from Riverview Center:
Earlier today, the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault (IA CASA) released a statement announcing their closure effective this weekend. IA CASA has been in existence for decades, working to promote crisis and longer term support services for survivors of sexual abuse and assault in the state.
Riverview Center has been a member of IA CASA for many years, and, with other member agencies, has used the programming offered by the coalition staff, predominantly in networking, technical assistance, and training, to ensure Riverview Center's passionate, committed sexual assault advocates have been well situated to meet the challenges of the critically important work they do each day with and on behalf of survivors.
However, we at Riverview Center want to assure folks that the closure of IA CASA will have no impact on the day in and day out support services offered by us and our sibling agencies across the state. No matter where you live in IA, a well-trained team of sexual assault advocates stand ready to assist anyone impacted by sexual trauma. Nothing about that has changed.
The team at Riverview Center operates under a 'No Wrong Number' policy -- even if they live outside our 14-county service area, if a survivor calls us in need of crisis or longer term support services, we will get them to the right place. All of our services are 100% free and 100% confidential. Call us at 888-557-0310.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions, or if I can be of assistance.
Yours in service to survivors,
Gwen Bramlet-Hecker
