Here's what Nolan has to say:
Greetings! At the moment I am putting the finishing touches on my Master's of Science in Education degree at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. After graduation I intend to get licensed in Minnesota and continue my mental health studies as part of my goal to remain fresh and current in my ongoing professional career. To date, I have worked with folks dealing with the effects of anxiety, depression, PTSD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Motor Tic Disorder, childhood abuse, and bereavement.
The potential for positive change is always alive for everyone given the right circumstances! That being said, I also believe there is no “one size fits all” therapeutic approach. Everybody is different and we all respond to different approaches and at our own pace. I strive to be flexible in my techniques and to individualize treatment with each and every client. I have experience using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychoanalytic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Solutions-Focused Techniques, and Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). I strive to continue to expose myself to, and practice, many more different forms of counseling and to always be willing to consider using new techniques/information depending on your needs.
As you can see, I keep myself open to many differing approaches, however, if I were asked to define my personal approach in an overarching fashion then I would state that I practice from an existential theoretical perspective. This means that I believe mental health is impacted to a large degree by the search for meaning in one’s life, and that by examining these bigger questions one may eventually see positive changes within their daily lives. In simpler terms: What would make you happy in life, and how can you get closer to achieving that goal?
In my personal life I am a huge history nerd, reading about it, visiting historical sites, and taking tours. I also enjoy the outdoors (hiking, camping, etc.) and soaking up the warmer months of this great, beautiful Midwest we live in!
