a veiled woman -

motherhood guides you under Gods covering in a tender yet demanding way.

we cannot ignore our need to be loved, nurtured, and held when we become mothers. I’d argue when a woman becomes a mom she needs her mother more than ever. She is not weak but she is fragile. When we are born we have the boldness to proclaim our needs thorugh crying, whining, and expression. Postpartum shouldn’t be any different. Our first weeks of motherhood we are born into a new version of ourselves and we need to be free to express our needs boldly.

I find birthwork to be so satisfying. I get the opportunity to work in the shadow of the Lord and witness his work in you. I get to hold space for you.

You deserve shelter that is far away from the lies of perfectionism. First to be held by God and acknowledge your need/desire for him. Then, to be held by those around you.

I find such joy in community work. As a doula I desire more to nurture the women around me and serve my community in depth

Remember back in the day before social media where you had to go door to door and actually speak to people? 😅 yeah, that’s where my heart is at.

Social media is fun but I find that a lot of people are connected but literally out of reach. I see the mama walking down the street in my hood and that’s who I want to serve, nurture, support, and walk with.

I want to bring back the village!! We all say it “it takes a village” but do we create it? I’ve been praying and asking God to help me to build the families in my area. To pour into the women that go to the same grocery store as me. Birthwork and Postpartum care to me… are a relationship. Not between client and professional but between woman to woman. 💗 yeah, that’s where my hearts at.

just a mama out in the wild with my cubs 💗

my Monday started off rough. felt a lot of feelings really fast when I woke up! But the bright shirt is on, headphones are on, and we’re OUTSIDE! Practicing how to renew my mind when I feel 🫠. It’s never to late to restart the day mama.

Happy BLACK HISTORY MONTH mama’s.

Man, I am overwhelmed by the honor, beauty, and sacrifice I see us mamas making daily. The way we protect and provide a freedom in our homes that can only be felt HERE.

I want to encourage ALL black mamas to be gentle with yourself, always. I recently told a friend “I am an advocate for black people not always having to advocate”!!!

I’ve attended marches, spoke in Delaware legislation meetings, posted the thing, written the papers and poetry and it all remains the same that we need consistent SABBATH.

Mindfulness is more than just a cute two piece yoga set and a matcha. Lol mindfulness is being intentional about taking care of YOU HEART, SPIRIT, & MIND. What does that look like for you today?

And if you aren’t a black mama how can you encourage those around you to simply, exist?

we don’t ASK for permission to birth our babies.

So boom… I was ready to push and my body immediately said “girl get up” in my Sarah Jakes Roberts voice. I was on my knees, hands surrounding my head, leaning on the back of the hospital bed. This wasn’t something I planned or even thought to do. I just did it. I felt most powerful like this and capable to push her out.

I pushed a few times and when my baby was almost here they told me to turn around on my back. 🙃 I remember ASKING “can I stay like this” and in one word or another they said “NO”.

I remember turning around felt weird and not in good timing. My baby was ready, I was ready, and yet I had to use however much time to turn my behind around and push on my back. I did, she came, and there ya have it. I gave birth.

But I wonder what would have happened if I told them “NO”. I imagine my baby would have came and I would have had the opportunity to feel STRONG.

What would happen if you learned to advocate for yourself without backing down? What would happen if you didn’t have to always give an explanation of why you’re making a certain decision?

I believe you can! You CAN experience the birth that God have you a vision for. You CAN stick to YOUR convictions and preferences without having to answer a million questions. If it’s one thing we’re not gonna do, is ask permission to birth our babies.

In the preparation for birth the work you do in your mind makes a DIFFERENCE!

We create birth plans (and they are a powerful tool) but birth is an “in the moment” experience. In order to make real-time decisions that are best for you and your baby there are 3 C’s I like to go by.

1) confidence
2) coping
3) calmness

You CAN overcome fear, uncertainty, and doubt before you get to the birthing room. You CAN advocate for yourself and stick with your convictions.

Here are some recommendations from your neighborhood doula.

1. Spend time away from the birth videos, pictures, registry, and clothes. Use this time to pray and ask God to guide YOU in your desires for birth. The online resources are amazing but everyone’s birth/baby is different. Honor your individual experience and return to watching that of others without the pressure to birth a certain way.

2. Attend a birth class!!!!!!

3. Journal your unfiltered thoughts about birth. Use that as a chance to give yourself grace and nurture the excitement, fear, curiosities, (and whatever feelings show up).

imagine this…. soaking worship instrumental, body oil, and a doula with loving hands helping you to lean into rest.

When I come to your home for your massage I come bearing the gift of peace. It is so important for us women to take care of US. What if the nurturing love you have to others was poured back into you for an hour long massage? Would you be able to breathe a little deeper? Would you be able to give attention to the parts of you that need love? Would you surrender to being taken care of?

What a delight. To know that God gives us rest. He says “come to me all who are weary and heavily burdened” and he promises to give us REST.

Now that’s something the world just could never give.

Massage in the childbearing years practitioner ⭐️

Attending and gleaning from .manna through Manna Massage Academy was such a LIGHT to my path as a birthworker, mama, and servant of Jesus. I am so excited to serve mamas with prenatal and postpartum massage.

A scripture that has been an anchor for me that Kaleigh directed my attention to is Matthew 10:1 where Jesus called his disciples and gave them power to heal disease!

The laying of hands … what a beautiful privilege to care for the vessels God has given us in such a tender and loving way.

The benefits of loving touch in prenatal and postpartum are so very extensive but here are a few.

1) reduce stress and anxiety
2) soothe pain from sciatica
3) drain the lymphatic system
4) healing and restoration in your mind through loving touch
5) aiding the reproductive system in restoring its health
6) cesarean section scar massage
7) relaxation during pregnancy

& The list continues on!
