Blustin Optical Center has been serving the northern Minnesota community for over 60 years. By partnering with local businesses, we work together to strengthen the northland for the benefit of our patients. Dr. Van Loon graduated with his Doctorate in Optometry from The Ohio State University in 1997. He has been seeing patients at Blustin Optical Center in Duluth and Two Harbors since graduating, ultimately purchasing the practice in 2005. He is dedicated to patient care and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure his patients' ocular health. Dr. Derin is a Hermantown native and a military veteran, a submariner who served on a nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine for six years, and then served two years in the Naval Reserve. He is proud to have served his country and is now equally happy to serve his community. Opticians and Staff:

A Christmas Spectacle Story

‘Twas the day before Christmas, and all through our office patients were hurrying, spending the last of their HSA benefits.

Glasses were displayed on the shelves with care, in the hopes that a patient would soon make them theirs.

Opticians were busy measuring PDs and seg heights, when all of a sudden they froze from the sight—

A red suit, white beard, and broken glasses in hand—in pieces and bent, unwearable for his trip across the land

New bushings and screws for the specs were installed, cable temples reshaped, completely overhauled.

“Now reading my list will be such a breeze, and flying at night I can do with such ease!”

Now Santa could continue to prep for his big night, “Thank you so much, you’ve saved Christmas!” he said with delight.

We hope you’re having a wonderful
fall!

As fall continues, temperatures drop, leaves fall, and
various seasonal allergens enter the air!
Red, itchy, and watery eyes can all be symptoms of
seasonal allergies. While not usually serious, allergies
can be extremely annoying to deal with.
Over-the-counter eye drops can provide relief, but if
your symptoms worsen (or include blurred vision,
light sensitivity, and/or sensation of an object in the eye) please contact our office to make an appointment.
