From a dog’s point of view, the world is filled with wonder and adventure.

It doesn’t take much for our pets’ curiosity to invite parasites - which can also find their way into our homes, especially this time of year.

Acting early against parasites is one of the most impactful ways we can express our love for our pets.

03/20/2026

A simple gesture. An act of love. That's how we see parasite prevention.

On World Awareness Parasite Day, we’re celebrating those small acts of love, which spark big moments of joy.

Protecting our pet will always be one of the impactful ways to express just how much we care about them. 💚

Veterinary professionals are the backbone of animal health and critical to rural economies. We believe care should be accessible and providers must feel supported, valued, and empowered.

That’s why the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation has launched the Animal Health Program.

This initiative strengthens veterinary professionals and communities by addressing three critical needs: fueling the pipeline of future veterinarians, supporting veterinary well-being, and improving access to care, especially in rural areas.

Our pets rely on us to expect the unexpected. New World screwworm (NWS) is a devastating parasite that feeds on the flesh of warm-blooded animals and can cause severe tissue damage.

To help support preparedness for a potential NWS incursion, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Boehringer Ingelheim’s NexGard® (afoxolaner) and NexGard® COMBO (esafoxolaner, eprinomectin, and praziquantel topical solution) for the treatment of infestations caused by NWS (Cochliomyia hominivorax) larvae (myiasis) in dogs and cats.

This EUA means veterinarians and pet owners can act quickly and confidently if New World screwworm arrives in the U.S. go.boehringer.com/pW26Q

NexGard and NexGard COMBO have not been approved for this use.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
NexGard® (afoxolaner) is for use in dogs only. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. Safe for use in puppies 8 weeks of age or older, weighing 4 pounds or more. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, itching, lethargy, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. The safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. For more information, including full prescribing information, talk to your veterinarian or call 888-637-4251.

NexGard® COMBO (esafoxolaner, eprinomectin, and praziquantel topical solution) is for topical use only in cats. Use with caution in cats with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, application site reactions, and anorexia. If ingested, hypersalivation may occur. Avoid direct contact with application site until visibly dry. Safe for use in cats and kittens 8 weeks of age or older, weighing 1.8 pounds or more. For more information, including full prescribing information, talk to your veterinarian or call 888-637-4251.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for IVOMEC® (ivermectin) 1% Injection for the prevention of infestations caused by New World screwworm (NWS) in cattle.

NWS is a destructive parasite that can severely impact animal health. Should it advance into the United States, this authorization gives veterinarians and cattle producers an important preventive tool to help protect herds – and, in turn, safeguard the food supply and the livelihoods of cattle producers.

This is the first EUA for any over-the-counter drug for the prevention of NWS infestations in cattle. You can learn more about how it helps strengthen U.S. preparedness right here: https://go.boehringer.com/NW65r

For full prescribing information, see package insert or speak with your veterinarian.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
IVOMEC® (ivermectin) 1% Injection: Do not treat cattle within 35 days of slaughter. Do not use in female dairy cattle of breeding age or in veal calves. Do not treat swine within 18 days of slaughter. Do not use in other animal species not on the label, as severe adverse reactions, including fatalities in dogs, may result.

We’re now working with Shelters United to improve access to preventive veterinary care for shelter animals. 🐾

As part of our collaboration, Shelters United members will have access to our high-quality vaccines.

In 2024, around 5.8 million cats and dogs entered shelters and rescues across the nation. Animals awaiting adoption often live in close quarters with other animals and can be at an increased risk of infectious disease. Immunization sets them up for healthier lives when they find their forever homes.

Did you know credentialed veterinary technicians are only legally prohibited from doing four things in their role: performing surgery, providing a prognosis, giving a diagnosis, and prescribing medications.

Everything else? They do it—and do it exceptionally well. Veterinary technicians handle a lengthy list of critical procedures. They're the backbone of , often spending more time with your pet than anyone else on the care team.

This week, we celebrate their expertise, dedication, and how they go beyond every single day. Read more about the essential role of veterinary technicians, in their own words: go.boehringer.com/1x7vX

Fewer than 20% of domestic violence shelters in the U.S. accept pets—but pets can be victims of abuse too. Without inclusive options, victims face impossible choices. Many remain in violent situations out of concern for the pets they share a deep bond with.

That’s why we're excited to collaborate with Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) and the Atlanta Humane Society. Volunteers from our Pets team recently transformed their facilities in Metro Atlanta, helping to make them more welcoming for those who seek them out for safety, stability, and peace. https://go.boehringer.com/yA_9L

A world that is accessible for pets is also more accessible and safer for the people who care for them. Help us spread the word and consider donating to an organization of your choice. October is and we can all make a difference.

Rabies claims tens of thousands of lives worldwide every year. Through our Stop Rabies program, we’re working hard to change that – with vaccination, education, and surveillance, helping to save lives.

Strategic partnerships, like our long-standing collaboration with Global Alliance for Rabies Control or local communities, make a real difference. But it takes all of us - you, me, and the community - to stop rabies.

As we recognize World Rabies Day, here's how real progress is being made in some of the most impacted areas: go.boehringer.com/kgff

With our U.S. Animal Health headquarters proudly located in Georgia, we were thrilled to participate in the First Lady of Georgia Marty Kemp's Pet Adoption Day & Georgia Grown Festival! This event provided an important platform to showcase Georgia's agribusiness community and help connect shelter animals with loving owners.

Such a great opportunity to discuss:
🐾 How veterinary care at every life stage keeps pets healthy and happy
🐣 Why preventive medicine enhances the productivity of poultry—after all, Gainesville, Georgia is the Poultry Capital of the World!

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success and for supporting Georgia’s animals and agribusinesses!
