Money can be a huge stressor in life and can greatly impact mental health. This can put someone into a cycle of money issues, mental health downs, low ambition, etc. that feels like it never ends. One survey found that, “72% of respondents reported their mental health problems made their financial issues worse” (Money and Mental Health Policy Institute).

At Duluth TMS, we realize this cycle can feel defeating, which is why we are contracted with almost all major insurance companies, Medical Assistance, and Medicare. We also realize that co-pays and deductibles can be really hard, especially in the beginning of the year. We have a Financial Assistance Program, which allows a few different tiers of discounts based off of the federal poverty guidelines. Don’t have insurance? We offer a low-cost private rate for those who do not have coverage. We will do anything we can to help those in financial need get the mental health support that they need to end the cycle.

If you or someone you know could benefit from TMS services to treat depression, give us a call at 218-481-0220 or find our website at www.duluthtms.com and we will do our best to work with whatever financial situation you are in.

With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, we are all preparing to show those we love how much we care about them. One way we can show we care is to notice when those around us are having a hard time. Especially during the long winter months, depression can get pretty severe. Here are some signs to look for in your loved ones:
-Irritability, getting annoyed easily, and anxiety
-Sadness, hopelessness, and being tearful
-Being abnormally withdrawn from you and others, situations, etc.
-Complaining about being more tired than normal
-Changes in appetite, either eating less or more than normal
-Trouble concentrating on conversations or tasks
-Not enjoying activities they normally would

Luckily, we have so many ways we can help those who are having a hard time! Don’t wait to reach out. Here are some things you can do if you notice these symptoms in your loved ones:
-Reach out to them, let them know that you care and you are there for support.
-Create a supportive home environment. Maybe suggest going for a walk, cook their favorite meal or make better nutritional choices
-Find an activity you can do together
-Offer to help them find resources to support their mental health needs. This may include a support group, therapist, talking to their doctor, or reaching out to us.

If Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is something that you think may benefit them and their depressive symptoms, please contact us at 218-481-0220 or www.duluthtms.com

January is Mental Wellness Month!
Mental Wellness is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as, “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.” For many, especially this time of year in Minnesota, finding mental wellness can be difficult. One great way to work on mental wellness is to learn some grounding techniques for when those feelings get to be too much.

Here are some simple grounding techniques:
-5-4-3-2-1 Technique: https://www.mondaycampaigns.org/destress-monday/unwind-monday-5-4-3-2-1-grounding-technique
-Tapping or the Emotional Freedom Technique: https://www.thetappingsolution.com/tapping-101/
-TIPPs Technique (Temperature, Intense Exercise, Paced Breathing, Paired Muscle Relaxation): https://www.manhattancbt.com/archives/1452/dbt-tipp-skills/
-Keeping a gratitude journal: https://ggia.berkeley.edu/practice/gratitude_journal
-Listening to music, watching a show you enjoy, or thinking about something that makes you happy can also be a good mindset change in those moments.

If you are dealing with depression specifically and medications and other standard depression treatments have proven to be ineffective, TMS Therapy might be an option.

We are in the midst of the holiday season! For some, this time can be full of joy and excitement and for others, this time can increase symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. A study found that 64% of people report their mental illness symptoms increasing during the holidays (National Alliance on Mental Illness). One cause of this can be Seasonal Affective Disorder, otherwise called Seasonal Depression, which occurs around late fall to early spring.
Especially being in Minnesota, these cold winters can be dreadful.
If you feel that these times are too much to handle, or you would like to experience more joy during the holidays, please look into trying TMS services to treat depression.

This treatment is FDA approved and covered by almost all insurance companies. We take care of the paperwork so you can take care of yourself and those you love. A typical treatment lasts 19-minutes with the ability to go back to normal life afterwards. Treatments are 5 days per week for 6-9 weeks total.

Our staff work hard to make the transition and experience easy and supportive. For more information or a free intake/screening call us at 218-481-0220 or visit our website at www.duluthtms.com
