Ronald Morris Brosdal

Ronald Morris Brosdal, age 87, of Duluth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, at Elysian of Duluth.

Ron was born on January 18, 1939, in Duluth, MN, to Clarence Morris “Morrie” Brosdal and Florence Violet Brosdal. He grew up in Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1957.

Ron lived a life defined by quiet dedication, kindness, and selflessness. He was known by all who loved him as a gentle soul. His life was deeply rooted in his family and his faith. Following the passing of his father, Morrie, Ron devoted himself to caring for his mother, Florence, remaining by her side until her passing in 2019 at the age of 102. His family is profoundly grateful for the unconditional love, patience, and compassion he showed her.

Ron honorably served his country after enlisting in the 148th Air National Guard on November 9, 1961. He graduated from training with honors in October 1962. Ron served for six years as a medical laboratory specialist and later took on a supervisory role.

Ron was a highly skilled medical technologist and laboratory supervisor. He was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the quiet competence that earned the trust of colleagues and those he served.

Outside of his career, Ron found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved gardening, reading, playing cards, working with his hands, and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He had a passion for photography and took pride in capturing memories from his travels and family events, often sharing them during family gatherings using his projector and 35mm slides in the basement “theatre.” He cherished time with family and especially looked forward to visits from extended relatives.

Ron was a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he volunteered in many capacities over the years such as the Administrative Council, Board of Trustees, Staff/Pastor Parish Relations, Finance/Stewardship, Membership Team, and Landscaping Team. He was often seen working behind the scenes in the kitchen during pasty making and meatball dinners and was also took his turn as an usher for many years. One of his biggest contributions to the church was being a member of the merging committee between Bethany and Central Ave. to create Asbury UMC. He was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Elysian and Essentia Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided him.

Ron is survived by his sisters, Jeanne Rychlak and Cheryl Brunner; his sister-in-law, Lorelei Brosdal; his nieces, Amy Westman, Renee Randa, and Tara Robinson; his nephews, Jeff Brosdal, Benjamin Brunner, Andrew Brunner, and Scott Brunner; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Gregory David Jackson

Gregory David Jackson, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, uncle and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 21st 2026 at the age of 69 after a courageous 10 year battle with kidney cancer.

Greg was born June 16 1956 in Duluth to Clayton and Lillian Jackson. He grew up in Smithville and graduated from Morgan Park in 1974. He followed in his father's footsteps by working for the Duluth school district and retired as a chief engineer after working 46 years. He was proud to do his best job every day even when it was hard. His cheerful and funny personality helped to brighten everyone's day and he could solve almost any dilemma. His sense of humor and ability to bounce back with a witty come back or corny joke helped define him.

He was the kind of man who attended every school event with gusto, made everyone around him feel seen and appreciated, but always followed the golden rule to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. He shared his wisdom through funny stories, readers digest jokes, and clever comebacks. He thrived when he was with family and friends; his friends compared him to famous comedians when he started cracking jokes or telling stories.

Greg loved being outdoors and the companionship that fishing, playing volleyball, golfing, camping, and walking the dog brought. Later in life, he enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, volunteering, mentoring, dining at local restaurants, live action, and playing with the grandchildren.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Carlson) Jackson, child, Sarah (John) Garramone grandchildren, Marvel, Kaia, Madelyn, siblings Lolly Rushenberg and Kenny (Lucia) Jackson.

A memorial service to celebrate Greg’s life will be held on Monday March 30th at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior to the service in the River Church in Duluth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory be given to the River Church or Freesinus Kidney Clinic.

His loving smile and engaging conversations will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Jim was born and raised in Duluth. He attended St. James Catholic School, until he was kicked out in the 6th grade. He attended vocational school to become a mechanic and got a job working at Krenzen Cadilliac. When Honda entered the automotive market, Krenzen’s sent him to California to learn the mechanics of this new, foreign car. Jim was let go from Krenzen’s shortly after. This gave him the motivation to start his own business, Jimmy’s Nuts and Bolts. Humble beginnings, his first garage was made of dirt floors, with a grease pit dug out by hand. Jim was a man for the people. He was extremely generous with his time and knowledge. He mentored many kids in the neighborhood, especially Billy Cusick and Jeff Kilby. As his business grew, so did his garage, and the number of people he positively influenced. As much as Jim loved working on cars, he loved racing them more. Jim was so good at racing; he was inducted into the Superior Speedway Hall of Fame. Many of Jim’s racecars were sponsored by his lifelong friend, John Dandrea. Above all, Jim loved his family. He spent 36 years of courtship with Jill Kilby, until her untimely passing in 2012. After many years, Jim reconnected with his ex-wife, Irene. Jim was a stand-up guy, and always did right by people. So much so, he was acknowledged in Mayor Don Ness’s book, “Hillsider: Snapshots of a Curious Political Journey”.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy Gaskill; son, James M. Gaskill; and life-partner, Jill Kilby. He is survived by his sons, Guy Gaskill and Jamie St. Germaine; daughter, Julie Schulz; grandchildren, Jenna, Jeremy, Joe, Jake, Nick, Joe, Megan, and Brandon; many great-grandchildren; partner, Irene Gaskill; sisters, Kathleen Gaskill-Paquette and Margie Riggio; the Kilby kids he treated as his own, Jeff, Jerry, Jason, and Julie; and his first wife, Ann Chiovitte.

Judith "Judy" Ann Borash

Judith “Judy” Ann Borash, age 86, of Hermantown, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 20, 1939, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Edward and Rita Joy Veillet, Judy was the eldest of two daughters. She graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1957 and began her career as an X-ray technician at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she enjoyed caring for others and building lifelong friendships.

On November 28, 1959, she married the love of her life, Elmer W. Borash. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, hard work, and devotion to family. Their marriage of enduring love became the foundation of their greatest accomplishment — raising five children and growing a family tree that continues to flourish.

Judy and Elmer owned and operated Thomson/Spirit Valley Disposal for many years, retiring in 1996. Their work ethic and commitment to the community were evident in everything they did.

Judy will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sweet yet spirited personality, and her gift for conversation. She could strike up a chat with anyone and leave them feeling like an old friend. Her warmth and presence touched all who knew her, and her legacy lives on in the countless lives she shaped.

A faithful Catholic, Judy was a proud founding member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, involved since its humble beginnings at the Piedmont Heights Community Club to its current home. Her faith guided her life and anchored her family.

She treasured the friendships she built through the St. Lawrence OK Club, the 4 Aces and 5 Spaces card clubs, the Bridgeman’s Gals Club, her knitting group, and with her beloved Denfeld Class of ’57 classmates.

Judy gave generously of her time and talents. She volunteered with the Damiano Center, Edgewood Vista, the Lighthouse for the Blind, and was fondly known as the Hermantown Middle School “copy lady.” Service to others was simply part of who she was.

Her grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life. She was their biggest fan, rarely missing a sporting event, concert, or milestone. In 2014, she was lovingly given the title “GO” — the Great One — an honor she wore proudly. She was deeply grateful to have family close by and cherished staying woven into the fabric of their daily lives.

Some of her happiest memories were made at the family cabin on Leech Lake, a place known for breathtaking sunsets and lively Fourth of July celebrations. The cabin was a memory-making factory filled with family, friends, guests, and especially the beloved “Brevik gang.” From morning coffee in the “Wisdom Room” to happy hour on the deck, laughter echoed across the water. And if you listen closely, you might still hear the faint chorus of “Red Solo Cup” drifting through the afternoon air.

Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her favorite moments were those spent gathered with the people she loved — often with a glass of wine in hand.

She is survived by her children: Kathy (Brad) Mickelson, Kriste (Brian) Haedrich, John, Jim, and Greg (Michaela); grandchildren: Patrick (Emy), Andrew (Liz), Sean (Mackenzie), Jacob, Derek, Mariah, Mackenzie (Sean), Korina (Thomas), Kylee (Brian), Matthew (Hanna), Thomas, and Jack; step-grandchildren Gretchen Mickelson and Melanie Rasmussen; great-grandchildren Kanan, Ezra, Malcolm, Wesley, Lowan, and Burke, with another LeBlanc expected; step-great-grandchild Harper; her sister Bonnie (Lloyd) Harper; cousin Tim (Diane) Williams; and her special lifelong best friend, Marjorie Klint.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmer, and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial honoring Judy’s life will be held 11AM, Friday March 6, 2026, with visitation one-hour prior at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Road, Duluth, Minnesota, with a Celebration of Life to follow.

Memorials in Judy’s honor may be directed to the Damiano Center (www.damianocenter.org).
