You know what bothers me so much?
When you go back and read medical records and find that the procedures youโve had are completely different than the narrative that was given after said procedure.
For example, in December 2018, I had a tubal ligation. I was TOLD that my tubes were cut. I just happened to go back and read my summary because my account at that same provider was reopened. My tubes were not cut, they were REMOVED.
And while that may seem like something great, I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. My level of pain especially near my ovaries and MISSING TUBES is excruciating sometimes. KNOWING that my tubes have been removed would have helped to navigate this already extremely difficult disease.
Another thing that frustrates me is this is done to BLACK women too many times. Why do we have to be our own advocates? Why canโt medical professionals just do what they are supposed to in spaces that are supposed to be sacred. It seems like I hear women tell me every day that they had to search everywhere and go through horrible experiences before finding a doctor that would just listen.
This is EXACTLY why I refuse to get my womb removed. Westernized medicine can be such a gift in many situations. However, in my personal experience it has been a NIGHTMARE. One medical misstep after another. My body is not a place to do something other than whatโs medically necessary, without asking. Removal of my tubes is the NUMBER ONE reason why my hormones are a disaster. This just makes me so sad. ๐
And before someone hops on here with crazy talk, straight from a medical journal, โHowever, some studies show a modest association between tubal ligation and a slightly earlier age of natural menopause, and some women may experience menopausal symptoms after surgery.โ
I. AM. THIRTY-EIGHT. YEARS. OLD. The perimenopause ON TOP OF the endometriosis AND adenomyosis PLUS having to be on Hormone Replacement Therapy could have been avoided. ๐ฉ๐ญ
This ladies and gentleman is why I do what I do. THIS is WHY Dr. Liv The Naturopath exists. Natural options are still available in the Kanawha Valley.
So, yes, I could sit and cry about this and trust me I want to. But my job is NOT done. EVERY new thing I learn is something else that makes me just a bit more knowledgeable about hormones, the female body and reproductive disorders. ๐
We got this. โ๐ฝ And on the days you donโt feel like youโve got it, Iโve got your back. ๐ซ
