What are you missing when you only image the crown?

In many cases, more than you realize.

Dental pathology often extends beyond what is visible clinically, involving roots, surrounding bone, and adjacent structures that cannot be fully evaluated in two dimensions.

As Veterinary Dental Month comes to a close, it is worth revisiting a topic gaining attention across veterinary imaging.

In the December 2025 issue of Veterinary Practice News (page 24), high-definition volumetric imaging, or HDVI, was highlighted as a factor contributing to the growing presence of CT systems in veterinary clinics.

HDVI captures the patient’s full density as a complete volumetric dataset rather than stacking individual slices. The result is true 2D and 3D visualization from a single acquisition, with spatial resolution down to 100 microns while maintaining safe radiation levels.

In dentistry, where disease frequently extends beyond the visible crown, volumetric data supports more informed diagnosis and treatment planning.

HDVI defines how the data is acquired and reconstructed. And that foundation supports more confident clinical decision-making.
