In 2024/2025 su***de has been 2nd leading cause of death in 10-14 year olds and 9th leading cause in 5-9 year olds - my last suicidal patient was 8 years old and despite my teams best efforts in the er we were unable to revive her - TALK TO YOUR KIDS AND LISTEN TO THEM !!!

Before the school year begins, take just five minutes. 5 minutes to TALK to them.Remind them it’s never okay to mock someone’s body, skin, clothes, or the food they bring.Explain that not every classmate has new shoes, a clean outfit, or someone waiting at home with a hug or food.Let them know that the quiet kid might be carrying heavy things not everyone can see.That school should be a place to learn and be kind. That teasing leaves real scars, even if it sounds like “just joking.”
Just 5 minutes.
Because kindness isn’t random.
It’s taught.
It’s modeled.
It starts at home.
It starts with you.
