Technology is great but if your socket isn’t custom designed and properly fit to provide maximum support and control, you won’t be able to take advantage of “technology”!

Today, Heath is enjoying his brand new direct skin fit suction sockets, custom designed from hand casts taken by Dream Team Prosthetics Clinical Director Chad Simpson!

With the most appropriate foundation firmly in place, only then can other components be introduced to the user effectively!

Several years ago, Heath was in a violent motor vehicle accident that severely damaged his pelvis, requiring it to be rebuilt with a metal framework! His left side is still impaired by the extensive damage! So we took all aspects of his situation into consideration when designing his new prosthetics!

As you can see, Heath is comfortable navigating hills, ramps, uneven terrain, stairs and other daily life situations without the need for a cane, crutches or other assistive devices!

Heath has trusted his prosthetic treatment to the professionals at Dream Team Prosthetics for twenty years! He has seen many advancements since loosing both legs above the knee in Iraq; he continues to make the commitment to being a full time prosthetics user, showing others what is possible with the care provided by Dream Team Prosthetics!

It’s official, we are happy to announce that the 2026 Bilateral Life Camp, hosted by Dream Team Prosthetics, will be held October 6 - 9 in Duncan, Oklahoma!

In the coming weeks, we will activate the online registration portal and provide more details about the 2026 Bilateral Life Camp!

As always, there is no cost to attend Bilateral Life Camp, but each attendee will be responsible for all associated travel costs, transportation, hotel, meals, etc.

Each day of camp is filled with unique activities and challenges that are geared toward improving mobility independence, specifically for those individuals with bilateral above knee limb loss!

Bilateral above knee limb loss requires a highly specialized approach; developing the necessary skills to be fully functional on hills, ramps, stairs, curbs, uneven terrain and navigating long distances using fully optimized, custom designed prosthetics solutions!

The highly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable specialists at Dream Team Prosthetics have developed a unique, effective approach that starts with a proprietary innovative socket design, selecting the most appropriate components, optimization of alignment, knee programming and advanced training methods that results in efficient, functional, mobility independence!

It was a great week seeing our long time friend, retired Staff SGT Heath Calhoun, from Tennessee! Heath is more like a family member, he chose to be treated by Clinical Director Chad Simpson twenty years ago!

When we met Heath at a conference in Minneapolis in 2006, he was using a wheelchair and had all but given up on being a functional prosthetics user.

Since his injury in Iraq in 2003, he struggled to get a good socket fit from multiple providers; some advising revision surgery to his limbs.

Chad’s extensive experience, creativity and skill greatly benefitted Heath; fitting him with sockets he could wear 10-18 hours a day and ultimately becoming a full-time bilateral above knee prosthetics user!

For Heath, the choice to try one more time to get prosthetics, this time designed by Chad, was a turning point in his life!

This week we again designed a new pair of direct skin fit suction sockets and with Genium X4 knees. Heath has seen technology advance; from his first pair of original C-Leg knees, to helping to develop and improve the early prototype Genium X2 knees, to X3 and now X4. Each time getting incremental improvements, helping him to regain more mobility independence!

We greatly appreciate Heath’s loyalty over two decades of clinical care; its an honor to be his provider of choice and we certainly thank him for his service and sacrifice while serving in the U.S. Army!

Transitioning a patient from his old Genium X3 technology into the new Genium X4’s! Our team collaborated with Ottobock R&D on the development of the Genium X4 starting in 2020!

We have a unique knowledge and comprehensive experience with fitting and proper training to get the maximum mobility from the advanced Genium X4 technology!

There is a learning curve, but that is minimized by our innovative training methods and our onsite mobility training areas.

Thermoforming the clear, diagnostic check socket is a critical part of the design process!

It all starts with a plaster hand cast, taken by Dream Team Prosthetics Clinical Director Chad Simpson; capturing the unique features and contours of the residual limb for the most accurate impression!

After the check socket fitting, we progress onward to the creation of the definitive socket with flexible inner liner and carbon composite frame; made onsite in our state-of-the-art lab!

The entire process is typically completed in just a few days so the patient can work on mobility challenges at our campus or out in the community!

The more prosthetic components such as microprocessor knees advance, the skill and experience of the prosthetist must also remain ahead of the curve! That is why we actually collaborate with manufacturers on improving technology to provide improved mobility independence for our patients!

We finished another busy week of treating multiple patients with many different levels of limb loss.

It was great to see our long time friend Brad, triple amputee that traveled to us all the way from Ohio for a new pair of legs!

We casted Brad on Monday morning for new sockets as he was struggling with the fit of sockets he was using. We fabricated diagnostic check sockets a few hours later to evaluate the fit and to make any necessary adjustments!

With everything feeling good and the new sockets globally supporting the entire residual limbs, we then move forward with designing the carbon composite definitive sockets!

We completed the final sockets by Tuesday afternoon and Brad returned to try them on; he was very pleased and felt much more control with sockets that fit securely!

One of the many benefits of the high level of clinical skill is greatly reducing the time to custom design the new prosthetics in a matter of hours rather than a matter of months!

With our onsite, state of the art laboratory, our treatment methods greatly benefit our patients with better fitting sockets and the ability to train with the new prosthetics on our campus!

For Brad, traveling thousands of miles to be treated by Dream Team Prosthetics Clinical Director Chad Simpson is a choice he made for the best outcome and mobility independence!

Brad attended the 2025 Bilateral Life Camp and was able to meet and interact with other individuals that are seeking a higher level of function using bilateral above knee prosthetics!

It was great seeing Brad again and we look forward to treating many more patients that travel great distances for the unprecedented high level of care we provide at Dream Team Prosthetics!

New year, new patients! We had a wonderful 2025 with so many patient fittings and a record setting Bilateral Life Camp!

We step into the new year with a very busy schedule and many authorizations already in progress!

As 2025 comes to a close, we want to wish everyone a very Happy Holidays and all the best in the coming new year!

At Dream Team Prosthetics, 2025 has been an epic year; treating so many highly motivated individuals with limb loss that travel to us from all across the world, for our unique approach to custom prosthetic design and effective training protocols!

It was great to welcome Ian Bishop, British Royal Marine Commando, back into our clinic for some brand new custom designed, bilateral above knee direct skin fit suction sockets! He arrived from his home in Spain, still using the last sockets we designed for him for more than six years!!

We greatly appreciate Ian’s loyalty and his long history with our team going all the way back fifteen years! Ian is one of the family and we are honored that he continues to choose us as his prosthetic care provider and graciously thank him for his military service and sacrifice!

We are starting off another busy week of patient fittings including bilateral above knee C-Leg’s with custom designed sockets!

The foundation of every prosthesis is the design and fit of the unique socket interface! Capturing the intricacies and nuances of the patients residual is the key; providing global contact and support over the entire residual limb!

Once the socket is designed for optimal results, other components can be introduced to start the process of regaining function and mobility independence!

Every prosthesis at Dream Team Prosthetics begins with the design and fit of the socket interface! We start with a plaster cast impression of the residual limb taken by hand for the highest level of accuracy!

We then fabricate the diagnostic check socket on site in our state of the art laboratory, for quality oversight and expediting the fitting process!

We will evaluate the socket fit and overall alignment while the patient walks in the parallel bars for safety. If changes or adjustments are necessary, we can easily make modifications to the check socket. Once everything is optimized, we use the diagnostic check socket as the guide for creating the definitive socket with flexible inner liner and carbon composite frame!

We typically complete this entire process in a matter of days; allowing the patient to receive the new prosthesis in a very timely manner for a more functional outcome.

At Dream Team Prosthetics Bilateral Life Camp, the most common struggle is learning to walk down a hill with control, stability and consistency! That’s why each day we focus on that activity!

The incredible group of bilateral peer mentors worked one on one with multiple participants on the techniques necessary to learn the skill of walking down hills!

The first phase is having the prosthetics completely optimized starting with the custom socket interface; knee and feet component selection; alignment and microprocessor knee programming!

It’s important to understand that not all microprocessor knees and feet will provide a bilateral above knee user with optimal function and usability!

Bilateral Life Camp is always the launch point for many individuals to obtain knowledge and experience what can be possible by adopting effective training methods and using fully optimized prosthetics that are designed for the best function and mobility independence!
