Inspirational and igniting. The Born Free Breech & Twins conference has lit a fire in my spirit. I arrived wearing a t-shirt that said "Disrupt the System Not birth" and I'm leaving with a deepened and even greater appreciation of this statement. Of the approximate 200 conference attendees, about a dozen were OB/GYNs. The remainder were midwives of all kinds (Licensed midwives like myself, CNMs, traditional, classical, birth companions and more identifiers). All there to continue our education on how to safely support the women that the institutions force into surgical births. We were a small group compared to what is out there and the work that needs to be done to facilitate change on a larger scale. Ultimately it's the women faced with being unable to find alternative options whose voices will be the loudest.

We as midwives, those who are actually & fully with women, have been persecuted and viewed as less than in the medical community since white men stole the role from black granny midwives and moved birthing to the hospital ~125 years ago. A system that has evolved into one that is run by lawyers, boards of directors & insurance companies - not by physicians & where they even have little control or input for policies that are in place. Many midwives have the ability to practice autonomously and outside the confines of the MIC. I met numerous women this weekend that practice in states that deem midwives with my level of training illegal. Yet they continue and take personal risks so that birthing at home with a skilled attendant is available for families in their areas. Inspiration at its best.

Attending this conference is one of many steps to help preserve the disappearing art of vaginal breech & twin births. Unfortunately, Florida Licensed Midwife laws & rules prohibit me from caring for known breech presentation or twins (so therfore is only minimally discussed in our educational programs). BUT while at the conference, I successfully reconnected with a couple of local CNMs and brainstormed some ideas that could bring this option to our vicinity!! 🤞🤞🤞

HE’S HOME!!!! 💚

This week we should have been having our 38 wk prenatal visit.  Instead, baby Marley is already 10 weeks new. This family has been
t h r o u g h it during his 2+ month NICU stay. But he’s HOME and he’s thriving!!!  Just look at these smiles!!!

Thank you to everyone who included them in your thoughts and prayers. It takes a village and the support they’ve received from near & far is very much appreciated!  Their journey continues and is wildly different than any of us anticipated or imagined.  Drop a 💚 below to show them some love!!!

Taking a moment to celebrate this fabulous first time mom who absolutely rocked her homebirth back in March! From the moment I met her I knew she was special. Her beauty runs deep allllllll the way into her shining personality and her smile literally lights up the room. Being able to be by her side as she transitioned from maiden to mother has been such a gift. And how lucky we are that this gift will last well beyond her childbearing year. 💙

It’s definitely not in my nature to jump in front of the camera, but I just couldn’t resist with these two!

It's International Day of the Midwife and a perfect time to celebrate all our sister midwives near and far who work tirelessly to bring peace to this planet.

Midwifery, for me, is a calling more than a career. The minute that I'm not in awe of the everyday miracles I stand witness to is when I know my work here is through. (& I'm not close to being done!) So you'll continue to find me proudly preaching the safety of homebirth and pouring love into my clients as they welcome sweet babies into their arms.

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but TOOT TOOT!

There's so much negativity posted frequently about providers, but there's some of us out here that are trying our absolute best to serve and hold women in the way that we all desire & deserve.  My clients lately have been so very sweet, not only with the gifts they've hand selected but moreover with the sentiments shared in personal notes.  As my client Sarah (an author) so beautifully stated here "the birth world could be transformed if more providers implemented even a fraction of your thoughtfulness, care, approach and perspective."  It's feedback like this that lets us know the difference and positive impact we are making people's lives.  And it is sooooooo appreciated and welcomed. ❤

I’ve been a bit quiet on social media lately, but in my heart I’m singing from the rooftops celebrating along side my incredible clients!! (or in this case, singing into the hose to fill the birth tub 🤣)

Thank you to for capturing this B roll fun!

It’s not very often there’s an opportunity to meet and learn from an OB that wholeheartedly believes in and supports the midwifery model of care. - Dr Stu is a champion for birthing women and midwives alike. Our 2 day workshop was full of information and breech (butt first) delivery skills. The room was mostly filled with midwives (community & hospital based), aspiring midwives, and other birth workers who yearn to learn….not one OB (other than Dr Stu). It’s not shocking, but it sucks.

Here in FL it is outside my scope of practice as a Licensed Midwife to facilitate a known breech delivery, but having previously taken it upon myself to learn some the these skills helped me save a baby’s life in 2022 when I was faced with helping a surprise breech make it to her mama’s arms.

What I learned over the past 2 days was eye opening. It is absolute garbage that the MIC continues to rip away women’s choices without pushback from the masses. I’m not an OB hater or a hospital hater, but it is tragic, defeating, and downright unethical for these physicians to not be taught in school how to facilitate vaginal deliveries for the approximate 7% of full term babies that aren’t in a head down position AND who also make the conscious decision to perform c-sections/surgical birth instead (which comes with a laundry list of risks for mother and baby). Without a doubt the system is crooked & broken.

At the end of it all, I’m just super duper thankful to have had this chance to get soooooo much more knowledge, experience, comfort and confidence in this disappearing art. Big thanks to & for bringing Dr Stu and his fantastic workshop to our area!
