🍫 Pet Poison Prevention Week – Day 6: Dangerous Foods

Some common foods are surprisingly toxic to pets.
🚫 Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum, candy, and peanut butter)
Can cause rapid drops in blood sugar and liver failure in dogs.
🍇 Grapes & Raisins
Can lead to kidney failure, even in small amounts.
🍫 Chocolate
Contains theobromine and caffeine, which can cause:
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Restlessness or tremors
• Elevated heart rate
• Seizures in severe cases

The darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is.

Keep these foods stored safely and always check ingredient labels—especially for xylitol.

🐭 Pet Poison Prevention Week – Day 5: Rat & Mouse Bait

Rodenticides are very dangerous for pets—and not all rat bait works the same way.

There are several different types, including:
🩸 Anticoagulants – cause internal bleeding
🧠 Bromethalin – affects the brain and nervous system
🦴 Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D) – causes dangerously high calcium levels and kidney damage
⛽ Zinc phosphide – releases toxic gas in the stomach

⚠️ Treatment depends on knowing which type was ingested.

If your pet may have eaten rat bait:
• Bring the package or photo of the label
• Contact your veterinarian immediately

Quick identification helps us provide the right treatment as fast as possible.

🧼 Pet Poison Prevention Week – Day 4: Household Cleaners

Many everyday cleaners can cause irritation or burns if pets ingest them.

Common culprits include:
• Bleach
• Toilet bowl cleaners
• Drain cleaners
• Concentrated disinfectants

Signs of exposure may include:
• Drooling
• Vomiting
• Pawing at the mouth
• Red or irritated gums

⚠️ Important: Never try to induce vomiting if bleach or strong cleaners were ingested. These products can cause serious esophageal and stomach ulceration, and vomiting can make the damage worse.

If exposure occurs, rinse the mouth with water and contact your veterinarian right away.

🌿🐾 Day 3 :Pet Poison Awareness Week 🐾🌿

Not all plants are created equal when it comes to pet safety! Some common houseplants like aloe and philodendron can cause mild signs such as drooling, vomiting, or tummy upset if nibbled.

But others are true emergencies 🚨 — lilies (especially for cats!) and sago palms can cause life-threatening kidney or liver failure even with small exposures.

If you think your pet chewed a plant, don’t wait for symptoms — call us or an emergency clinic right away. Quick action can save lives! 💚

📸 Take a photo of the plant if you can — it helps us treat your pet faster!
