Worried your baby isn’t getting enough milk?
You’re not alone. Between pediatrician visits, it can feel like you’re guessing. But there are signs you can look for - small but meaningful clues that often show baby is feeding well.

Here are 4 signs to look for (no scale needed):

đŸ‘‰đŸŒDiaper output:
At least 5–6 wet diapers and 3–4 poops in 24 hours is a common sign that milk is moving through your baby’s system. Output is often one of the earliest ways to gauge intake.

đŸ‘‰đŸŒSofter breasts after feeding:
If your breasts feel noticeably less full after a feed, it usually means baby has removed a good amount of milk. It’s not about feeling “empty,” but rather softened and relieved.

đŸ‘‰đŸŒA content baby post-feed:
Look for a baby who relaxes after feeding—open hands, a soft body, and maybe even a milk-drunk snooze. While some babies have fussy moments no matter what, generally looking relaxed after feeding can be a great sign.

đŸ‘‰đŸŒNo sunken fontanelle:
That soft spot on top of baby’s head (the fontanelle) should feel flat or slightly curved. A sunken fontanelle can be a sign of dehydration and is worth a call to your provider.

Remember: These are signs, not rules.
If something doesn’t feel right, or if your gut says baby may not be getting enough, trust yourself and reach out. You’re not meant to figure this out alone. Support is here when you need it. Telehealth consults available through the link in my bio đŸ«¶

It sounds official, but there’s no standard definition of what makes something “hospital grade.” Some pumps are labeled this way because they’re closed system, multi-user models.

But “hospital grade” ≠ highest milk yields.

What does matter when choosing your primary breast pump?
✔ Proper fit
✔ Effective suction modes and cycles
✔ A plan that works for you

Consider a prenatal visit with a lactation professional to explore pump options and find the perfect pump for you!

How strict do milk storage guidelines need to be? New research is raising questions! Despite guidelines recommending you toss leftover milk after 2 hours, bacterial levels in used bottles stayed relatively stable for up to 8 hours. How cool is that?!

This paper has been submitted for peer review, so don’t take it as the gold standard just yet, but it really goes to show how much is still out there to learn about human milk!

As for me, I guess I’ll set a news alert so I can revise my materials if things change đŸ˜…đŸ«
