Do you feel unstable when walking?

It might not just be your balance. It could be a key muscle on the side of your hip called the gluteus medius.

This muscle works hardest when you’re standing on one leg (which happens every step you take 👣). Its job is to:

➡️ Keep your pelvis level
➡️ Prevent your hips from dropping
➡️ Help you stay steady and confident while walking

When it’s weak, you may notice:

⚠️ Swaying side to side
⚠️ Feeling off balance
⚠️ Hip or low back discomfort

The good news? 💪
You can train it! Start with simple exercises and work your way up to the more challenging ones (outlined in the video). This can make a big difference!

Stronger hips = safer, steadier walking.

Sarcopenia is the age-related loss of muscle mass, strength, and function. However, it isn’t just about losing muscle size—it’s also about the quality of the muscle. As muscle mass decreases, the remaining muscle fibers can become less efficient and weaker, which impacts balance and strength. As we age, it is important to include strength training as part of one's health routine!

Ever wonder what happens during a total knee replacement surgery? In this procedure, the damaged or worn-out parts of the knee joint, including cartilage and sometimes bone, are removed and replaced with artificial components made of metal, plastic, or ceramic. This helps restore function, reduce pain, and improve mobility for patients with severe knee arthritis or injury.

Dry needling is used for a variety of reasons and can be an effective part of a larger treatment plan. This technique can reduce trigger points, improve pain control, and increase range of motion. Research findings also show that dry needling can improve how our nerves interact with our muscles, enhancing muscle function and efficiency. Be sure to ask a physical therapist if dry needling is appropriate for you!

Are you experiencing neck pain or soreness after a day at the office? Do you feel eye strain or fatigue after using the computer? Several ergonomic principles can help, but start by checking the position of your monitor. Your screen should be at eye level or slightly below, allowing for a natural downward gaze when viewing the middle of the screen. This can reduce stress to the cervical spine and eye strain while working.
