Pain Care Yoga classes in Durango, CO, return this week! This class is open to anyone experiencing persistent pain and offers gentle practices to create a sense of safety in the body, calm and reset the nervous system, and encourage more ease of movement.

Pain is complex and is influenced by a variety of biological, psychological, and environmental factors. When pain persists for a period of time, the nervous system becomes sensitized, and pain may become less and less predictable. Over time, the brain may associate certain movements, sounds, visual stimuli, smells, or other stimuli with pain and thus intensify the pain experience.

While this may sound disparaging, the good news is that the pain experience is changeable! We can rewire the neural processes that trigger the pain response in the brain, and in turn, we can change our pain. And yoga offers one effective path to initiate these changes reframe the relationship with pain.

Please pre-register to secure your space in the class, as space is limited. No payment is required during registration, but donations are appreciated at the time of the class (cash, check, or Venmo).

A year ago I did not feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit because of chronic bloating in my meno-belly.

I hadn't changed my wellness routine - I was working out, eating healthy, and practicing yoga and meditation - and yet my body changed.

For many women, belly bloating is common in perimenopause. It decreases self-confidence and can make you feel really crappy :(

My bloating greatly reduced when I incorporated three things into my wellness routine.

✅ I consumed fewer carbonated beverages.

✅ I rubbed sesame oil in my belly button after eating.

✅ I began practicing the ancient practice of Agnisara Kriya (taught by Indu Arora).

These practices not only helped reduce my belly bloat, but they also helped me to feel more in control of my menopause journey and more comfortable with the changes to my body.

I hope my experience will help other women experiencing perimenopause bloat find some relief.

And I'm super excited to facilitate a space for women to come together and share what they've experienced in their menopause journey and try yogic practices for balance and inner peace.

Ladies of Durango, the first Menopause Yoga session is coming up on January 25th. I'd love for you to be a part of this supportive and empowering group.

I am fortunate, perhaps lucky, that my lived experience of perimenopause has been pretty gentle.

While I certainly have experienced some unfamiliar and uncomfortable symptoms, I‘ve managed them well and maintained a sense of comfort, stability, and balance through my yoga practice.

I believe the key to alleviating symptoms lies in a consistent practice of subtle yoga techniques that regulate the vital flow of Prana (energy). Sure, I love to practice asana (the postures), but yoga is so much more than asana and reaches far more than just the physical body.

IMHO, the most potent yoga practices are subtle, quietly effecting change in the layers of the self that are not always palpable. And this is what I’m so thrilled to share with other women in my community that are struggling in perimenopause or menopause.

Durango ladies, please join me for Menopause Yoga, a series of special workshops this winter and spring to learn tools that will help you reclaim balance in your body and thrive in menopause.

Sessions meet on Sundays, 11 am – 1 pm, in The Smiley Building on:

January 25
February 22
March 22
April 19
May 24

You can feel better, and you can thrive in menopause!

Attention, ladies of a certain age!

As you know, perimenopause brings a variety of physical, energetic, mental, and emotional symptoms that make everyday life challenging and uncomfortable.

I, too, struggled with bizarre and rapid changes in my body that made me feel "not like myself". 😕

From the yogic perspective, menopause is a natural process, not a disease or condition, and it should be treated as such. Therapies for menopause are lacking, but fortunately, I've learned some ancient yogic practices that have eased my symptoms and helped me to feel more like myself again. 🧘🏼‍♀️

I'd love to share what I've learned and experienced with you! Ladies of Durango, I invite you to attend an upcoming monthly workshop series called Menopause Yoga.

We'll practice yogic techniques that address many of the common symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, mood swings, fatigue, joint pain and stiffness, digestive disharmony, bloating/gas, and more.

This series is appropriate for those in perimenopause or post-menopause who are seeking relief in a supportive, nourishing environment.

Sundays, 11 am - 1 pm at The Smiley Building:

➡️ Jan. 25
➡️ Feb. 22
➡️ Mar. 22
➡️ Apr. 19
➡️ May 24

The series is not a progression, and each session is a stand-alone workshop. Feel free to try one, and return for another if you feel you benefit.

Space is limited. Please pre-register to reserve your spot using the QR code on my flier ➡️

I often post this picture (taken from my deck) after the first snowfall. The picture does not do the beauty of this landscape justice.

Winter can be rough where I live. The road to my house is terrible to begin with, and downright treacherous when it snows.

Driving home last night was a little stressful 😬

But then I get to wake up to this ❄️🌲☀️ I am truly grateful to live here!

I’m even more grateful for my yoga practice, which reminds me to appreciate and immerse myself in these moments.

Greetings FB friends!

As I reflect on this season of gratitude and thanks, I think of all of you who have supported me and Birdsong Yoga Therapy for many years.

I am honored to be of service to you and humbled to witness you in your life’s journey 🙏

I know that the holidays are difficult for many, especially those in the throes of grief. I have been there, and still, at times, the holiday season can propel me into the darkest depths of my soul.

I have learned, over time, to find shelter in my heart 💗. The peace I now find there reminds me that no matter what I am feeling or what is happening in the world, I can still welcome in the light.

It is possible to acknowledge and process the things in life that feel dark, and to also stand in the light and beauty of this world ✨.

And sometimes, when I find that difficult to do, I turn to music or poetry to inspire me. I recently discovered this poem by Jan Richardson that captures this sentiment eloquently (see 2nd image), and I would like to share it with you as we enter the holiday season.

And with it, I wish you a gentle Thanksgiving and time to rest and reflect.

With gratitude and thanks,

Lynn 🙏💜🙏💜🙏💜

I am feeling lots of anger right now because of the systematic dismantling of environmental, educational, charitable, and equitable programs in this country that I care deeply about. I am equally enraged at the fear, hate, discrimination, and outright stripping of rights being directed at the LGBTQ community.

I can’t possibly list all of the things that bring up anger in me, and I know I don’t have the bandwidth to take on the activist role for all of the issue I care about. What I CAN do is self-care practices to address my anger, and I’d like to share some of these with my virtual community who may be looking for tools to help themselves in this moment in time.

The next class in the Resilience Yoga series will focus on managing anger. This class meets on Zoom next Monday, 5:30 – 6:45 pm MT, but will be recorded for those unable to attend live. I will guide you through movement and posture, breath, mudra, mantra, and guided meditation to help you acknowledge your feelings, reduce emotional reactivity, calm the mind, and build resilience and steadiness.

Offered on a sliding scale, $15 - $25. Hope on over to birdsongyogatherapy.com/upcoming-events/ for details and registration.
