🐾✨ Our Sanctuary Queens ✨🐾

Owl (18), Buddha (17), Lahaina (16), MaiMai (15), BooBoo (14), Charlotte (14), Alice (13), Mitzi (13), Bridget (13), JLo (13), and Plumeria (11).

These ladies are the heart of Cat Care Durango.

Since moving into our new facility, our senior girls have truly blossomed. With cozy rooms, sunny windows, and peaceful spaces away from the younger crowd, we’ve witnessed incredible transformations — especially Owl, who now lounges in laps, plays, and confidently struts around like she owns the place. (Because she does.) ☀️

Each of these queens has her own personality, her own story, and her own pace. Some will live out their golden years right here with us. Others may still be waiting for the right person to see just how special a senior cat can be.

And thanks to a generous supporter, BooBoo’s adoption fee has been lovingly covered — she’s ready whenever her perfect match walks through the door. 💚

Senior cats love deeply, settle in beautifully, and bring a calm, steady kind of companionship that is truly unmatched.

While space limits how many seniors we can take in, what we can promise is this: every single one is cherished beyond measure.

Senior cats are something special. And these ladies? They’re royalty. 👑🐱

🎨💚 A Very Special Thank You 💚🎨

We want to give a HUGE thank you to Clara Portier for volunteering her time and incredible talent to create Cat Care Durango’s very first mural!

Clara has been part of our family for a while. She volunteered with us in our old space, adopted the spunky tuxedo cat Bert, while working at Durango Animal Hospital, and studying cell and molecular biology up at the Fort (she graduates in May! 🎓✨).

Oh — and did we mention she created this beautiful mural while pregnant?! Absolute rockstar.

So many people stop and admire her work as soon as they walk through our doors. It has already become such a special part of our new space, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Clara, thank you for sharing your heart, your talent, and your time with us. The kitties — and all of us — are so lucky to have you. 🐾💕

We are beyond grateful for everyone who came out to celebrate our Grand Re-Opening with us! The turnout was incredible, we met new faces and caught up with our long time supporters, adopters and friends. Our new facility felt the love and our hearts are full. 💚🐾

To the volunteers who jumped in to help (you know who you are 🤍), to Damn The Moon for filling our space with amazing live music, all the thoughtful gifts we received from you, and to the talented bakers who spoiled us with cupcakes, cookies, chocolates, and chocolate-dipped strawberries — everything was absolutely perfect.

The generosity, compassion, and community support we felt that day reminded us why we do this. Cat Care Durango is more than just a space for cats — it’s a village of people who believe they deserve love, safety, and second chances.

The kitties truly couldn’t do this without you. Thank you for standing beside us and making this new chapter so special. ✨💕
With Love,
Padgie, Shiann, Bailey, Brigid, Sue, Linda, Leah, Arden, Siri, Doug and the Cats!

💛 Java’s Story 💛
Born on 5/22/25, Java has faced more challenges in her short life than any kitten should. She arrived at Cat Care Durango just days old with two siblings who, heartbreakingly, did not survive. To give her the best chance, Java was placed with Eve, a loving nursing mom raising four tuxedo kittens.

A few weeks later, the entire litter was diagnosed with coccidia, a serious intestinal parasite. With treatment, the others recovered — but Java didn’t. While she fought hard, her tiny gut never fully healed.

Since last fall, Java has endured multiple treatments, supplements, and two f***l implants in an ongoing effort to help her feel normal and comfortable. Although we’ve finally improved her stool consistency, she continues to struggle with medical related litter box issues — a sign that something deeper is still going on.

Throughout this process, we carefully and thoughtfully considered Java’s quality of life. This is always one of the most difficult parts of rescue work. That said, Java is a little fighter-even on her hardest days, she continues to be playful, social, and full of zest for life.

🐾 What’s next for Java
Our next step is to send out a comprehensive f***l panel to Texas A&M, which offers a much broader range of testing and may finally help to pinpoint the root cause of Java’s condition. Unfortunately, this test — combined with her already extensive medical care — comes at a significant cost. Java is now one of the most medically expensive kittens we’ve ever cared for… and she’s only 8 months old.

✨ How you can help
If you’re able to donate toward Java’s medical care, you’ll be helping us take the next critical step toward answers, comfort, and a better quality of life for this sweet girl. Every dollar matters. If donating isn’t possible, sharing her story helps just as much.

Java is gentle, loving, and incredibly resilient. She’s never given up — and neither will we. Thank you for helping us keep fighting for her. 💛

We are incredibly grateful to Durango Motor Company for including Cat Care Durango as one of the nonprofit recipients in their 12 Days of Christmas campaign. Thanks to their generosity and to everyone who purchased a vehicle during those 12 days. We received a total of $4,800 in donations! 😻 Customers had the opportunity to donate up to $100 with their purchase, and every dollar will directly support the cats in our care.

Thank you to Durango Motor Company and to every individual who chose to give a meaningful gift to the cats. Your support truly makes a difference, and we appreciate you more than words can say.

We are beyond grateful for our adopters. 💚
In less than one month in our new space, 20+ kitties have gone home! It’s truly an incredible start to this new chapter.

Who went home?! Moonlight, Marlon Brando, Aubrey Hepburn & Clark Gable, Sophia Loren, Allen Ginsburg & Margaret Catwood, Dr. Seuss, Ava Gardner, Hero, Honey, Angel, Mariah Carey, Alto, Butterscotch & Valentine, Waffles & Felix, Cyrus & Theo, Marty, Cleo, Eve & Gingersnaps (heading home this week!) 🐾

Many of these cats have been in our care since they were tiny, and watching them grow has been incredibly special. But the best part is seeing them take the next step — leaving with a family of their own, ready to be loved exactly as they deserve. That’s what success looks like to us. 😻🥹

Currently we only have a few cats up for adoption that are still looking for their forever homes! Find them on our website and fill out an application: catcaredurango.org/adopt

We do not have any kittens at the moment. But! Kitten season is just around the corner.

**UPDATE!!**
CLEO WAS ADOPTED!! 🥹🥹🥰🥰

Meet Cleo 💗
This 9-year-old sweetheart lost her entire world when her beloved human dad passed away. After being an only cat her whole life, the noise and change around her have been overwhelming.

But in quiet moments, Cleo melts. She leans in, asks for love, and just wants to be close to her person again.

Cleo needs a calm, quiet home as the only pet — a place where she can feel safe, cherished, and finally at peace.

If you’re looking for a gentle soul to love, Cleo is waiting.

Please share — her person might be out there. 💕

Meet Charlotte 💕
Charlotte came to us from our friends at Rachel’s Forgotten Felines after experiencing a huge and heartbreaking life change. Her human passed away, and while family came from Texas to take care of things, they wanted nothing more than to make sure Charlotte was safe, loved, and not lost in the shelter system.

At 14 years young, Charlotte is a senior lady with a gentle soul. She’s also FIV+, which means her home needs to be a little more specific — but it doesn’t define her or stop her from living a happy, love-filled life. Rachel made sure Charlotte received full veterinary care, including bloodwork, and she’s in great health — the only note being that she is FIV positive.

With so much change already behind her, we wanted to give Charlotte a soft place to land… and wow, has she blossomed. 🌸 In just a few short days here at Cat Care, she’s stolen our hearts and quickly become a staff favorite. She’s settling in beautifully, soaking up love, and showing us just how special she is.

Now, we’re hoping to find Charlotte the perfect forever home — one where she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by comfort, patience, and lots of affection.

If you’ve been thinking about opening your heart to a senior kitty, Charlotte might just be your girl. 💖
Please reach out, share her story, and help us find this sweet soul the loving home she so deeply deserves.
