For years, research has shown that sleep apnea increases an individual's chances of developing severe diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression. With more studies being conducted every year, medical professionals are linking it to others too. Within the last year, a study found that individuals who have had undiagnosed sleep apnea for an extended period develop the same type of protein on the brain that causes Alzheimer's dementia. If you believe you or a loved one has undiagnosed sleep apnea, we encourage you to see your doctor and get a sleep study scheduled. Keep those precious memories for later on in life!
A new study by Monash University has found that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been linked to an increased risk of dementia.
