“Hey guys. Looking tor some advice and encouragement.
I'm so drawn to spiritual work. I've had readings from a handful of different psychics over say the past 7-8 years.
Something that always comes up without prompting is how gifted and psychic 1 am (or could be ). I started reading books and listening to a few podcasts. I taught myself basic meaning of tarot cards and have my first 2 levels of reiki. I believe in all of these things, I know psychic and medium work is real, however I've taken multiple psychic development classes, tried exercises on my own and I just feel nothing. When I receive reiki, I feel nothing, and don't notice a difference much afterwards. I want to offer reiki sessions and start my practice there but I have no confidence since I don't really feel much. I don't know how to pick up on what the client needs so I just teel so insecure. I just don't know what's wrong with me. I can't feel a connection to any particular clair. Everything is just
"blank". I try meditating, binaural beats during the night. So many things. I can't help but feel discouraged.
I know my teachers always say "don't be afraid to be wrong just say what you're getting" the problem is when I try to connect with someone or something, there's nothing. I would be ok being wrong, but I don't want to just make something up when I'm not seeing/feeling/hearing etc. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions.”

My reply:
First of all, you are not alone!! Most people have blocks at some time in their development from impostor syndrome, low confidence, the pressure to perform/give a reading, or the desire to not disappoint your sitter. All of these boil down to nervous system regulation issues. You’re putting too much pressure on yourself to do this. I would suspect you’re probably also a perfectionist, like many of us and we are the hardest on our ourselves! Lol
I understand and hear you say you want to do this, but if doing this feels stressful for you, you’re not going to be able to relax into it until you can remove that fear of failure or disappointment before you begin. I would suggest trying some breathing techniques to relax your body, and you can also try just doing some light meditation to see if that helps.
The next step I would try would be to do some readings on your own for yourself and just pretend that you are reading for someone else. No pressure there! Look at the cards and just allow whatever draws your attention to it on the cards to speak to you about what it symbolizes. If it’s a color, it could be something that color makes you feel. If it is a shape, it could be something that shape represents to you. Just know that whatever you feel about these cards and the images on them are not what the book says about these cards and not what anyone else will say about them, but it’s unique to you so you absolutely can’t be wrong. When we read intuitively, the cards are just a tool and we use them to allow meaning to arise within us. Who can say that it’s wrong? Start with one deck only and stay with that deck for some time until you want to try a new deck, but still include that old deck. That is your familiar space.
I think if you can build some confidence up with yourself and feeling comfortable with the cards in your hands and speaking about the images that you have become comfortable with, that will get you at least in a place where you can move forward.
The next thing I would do is find one person you know well and trust and start doing some readings for them- not with them in front of you. You do the readings in your own time at your own pace. Maybe do a reading that you record voice only or do a reading that you can type up and send to them and then move to doing one on Zoom without them present but that you record and finally do one that will be with them present and it’s just them and they understand the assignment. Baby steps!
The next step would be to move to a very small practice circle that is non-judgmental and allows you to practice your readings in front of someone else. You can also look around your community. I have an office at a wellness center and every Saturday morning and I think on another night during the week they have tarot share, so plenty of circles to try.
I think these steps will definitely get your experience level up and get your confidence moving in the right direction after your nervous system gets a little break and can feel that this is establishing a new pattern/experience for you -so each time you go in to do this, you will remember that you’ve done this before and everything is safe, you are OK, and there’s nothing to be worried about because you can’t be wrong. Best of luck to you!
