Black Maternal Health Week is a time to honor, uplift, and advocate for Black mothers and birthing people, while also acknowledging the very real disparities that continue to impact their care and outcomes.
In the United States, Black women are still 3–4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. Many of these deaths are preventable, and the disparities persist regardless of income, education, or access to resources.
These numbers reflect not individual risk, but *systemic gaps in care, bias within healthcare, and a deep need for more compassionate, continuous support.*
Behind every statistic is a person, a family, a story that deserves to be heard, respected, and protected.
This is why advocacy matters. This is why being witnessed, supported, and truly listened to during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum is so important.
Doulas play a vital role in helping bridge these gaps by offering steady presence, informed support, and care that centers autonomy, dignity, and trust.
✨Every family deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported in their birth experience. ✨
