Before you get too hasty… consider that there’s no evidence for the use of the hamstring tantrum exercise and look up what tendon “stiffness” is before making a comment.

I) What’s the most important thing that patients want?

❇️ a set of exercises to do 3x/week to “fix” their issue?
⁃ That would be nice - fill in the blank sexy protocols

II) People want to understand the problem
❇️ We facilitate “Sense making” on day one
⁃ Reassurance - how? Re: pain or pathology
⁃ Is it what we say?
⁃ What is the deliverable?
⁃ What’s the process of sense making?
❇️2 ways
A) 1 is by listening
Learn their beliefs & help them reconceptualize
B) 2 is via self-efficacy - a positive experience w/ movement

III) Performing movement exploration to find a safe starting point (of tolerable) exercises
❇️ dialing traffic light, reps, frequency, etc)
❇️ encouraging self-organization - ie no single right or “correct” technique

❇️ Helping them gain confidence that they can handle more than they think they were capable of:
⁃ tangible hope & an achievable plan
⁃ It’s about tailored planning, preparing, & programming (person-centered) more than treatments or training (Dr/Coach-centered)

IV) Process & Progressions
⁃ Not a quick fix or recipe
⁃ Not linear or predictable
⁃ Requires “slow cooking” exposures related to demands
⁃ Flare-up expectations & management
⁃ Debriefs
⁃ How we work together as part of an athlete-centered team
⁃ Local/Global/Sport Specific Capacity

90% just clocking in, doing the minimum.

8% are trying to do better but maybe just don’t have it figured out yet or are constrained by their environment.
