Duke Sports Concussion Clinic

Duke Sports Concussion Clinic The Duke Sports Concussion Clinic is comprised of a team of concussion specialists who are here to help you recover safely from your concussion.

Duke Sports Medicine has developed a sports concussion clinic to provide expert care for the management of concussions sustained during athletic events to expedite a safe return to sport. Unlike musculoskeletal injuries, concussive injuries are harder to diagnose and manage due to the variability of symptoms that present with injury. It is important to have a sports concussion diagnosed and managed by healthcare providers who have experience in the treatment of sports concussions. The Duke Sports Concussion Clinic is staffed by experts in sports medicine, neurology, physical therapy, and neuropsychology.

Our program manager, Corina Martinez, guest lectured for the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy program to teach the future generations of PTs how to evaluate and treat concussions. These students did a great job learning skills from the new SCAT6 and SCOAT6 and practicing PT interventions for common symptoms of dizziness, neck pain, and headaches. (Note the hands on head sign of intense focus as they work through the cognitive portion of the tools!) If you didn’t know that PTs can help with concussion symptoms, you might be missing an important component of the recovery process.
