Executive Director Dr. Jeff Bytomski presented on “Gadgets and Gizmos in Concussion: What Is the Science“ and Program Manager Corina Martinez presented on “Rehab Pearls for Concussion” at the recent Advanced Team Physician Course in Salt Lake City. Lessons learned: there are some wonderful concussion providers all over the country and it’s important to be seen by the right people to get the appropriate treatments needed to recover.

Our program manager, Corina Martinez, guest lectured for the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy program to teach the future generations of PTs how to evaluate and treat concussions. These students did a great job learning skills from the new SCAT6 and SCOAT6 and practicing PT interventions for common symptoms of dizziness, neck pain, and headaches. (Note the hands on head sign of intense focus as they work through the cognitive portion of the tools!) If you didn’t know that PTs can help with concussion symptoms, you might be missing an important component of the recovery process.

Tyler Zombro was unconscious before he hit the ground. He has since had emergency brain surgery. Physical and speech therapies are helping, but his progress serves as a tribute to his love of the game.
