We're proud to once again be named North Carolina's #1 hospital in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2021-2022. Our hospital has also been nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties. This recognition is especially meaningful in light of the many challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To our patients and community: thank you for trusting us with your healthcare. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you.

We also extend our appreciation to our team members. The dedication and care they provide to our patients, their loved ones and each other every day are the reasons behind this achievement.

Does your hospital infection prevention team need help with HAI surveillance? Many hospital IPs are finding that they are drowning in the COVID pandemic response, and that their normal infection control duties are falling behind. The DICON IP team has been helping our member hospitals with remote surveillance duties for the last 10 months and would like to open up their services to other hospitals in need. DICON has engaged more than 70 hospitals and surgery centers over the past 22 years. Our staff consists of experienced consultants who are all board-certified in infection prevention and control with experience in surveillance of HAIs, management of infection prevention programs, and implementation of prevention strategies aimed at reducing HAIs. DICON has now transformed this expertise and experience into the DICON Remote Surveillance Program.

Yesterday was an amazing day at Duke University Hospital. Faye Williams, who came out of retirement in July to help with the pandemic as a patient care coordinator, was the first to receive Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at DUH.

“It’s an honor to get the injection,” said Williams, “and even more so, it’s an honor to be the first to get it.”

A flurry of activity surrounded Faye Williams as she signed form after form. Dressed in her Duke blue scrubs and wearing her lucky pearls, she sat patiently as she and those around her prepared to make history in a Searle Center conference room at Duke.
