The Center for Occupational Therapy Education (COTE) at Colorado State University was established in the fall of 2008. The Center is the first of its kind in the country and is focused exclusively on expanding educational research, practice, and theory development in the field of occupational therapy. Our vision and mission are organized around two broad areas of concern: faculty development and educational research. Faculty Development:
The primary mission of the Center’s faculty development arm is to promote integrated, occupation-centered education in order to graduate therapists who meet the occupational needs of society. Educational Research:

The primary mission of the Center’s educational research arm is to develop and research a conceptual model for teaching, learning and curriculum development that is situated in occupational therapy educational practice.

Thank you for your patience as we have waited to make decisions about this year’s institute. Rather than cancel the institute, we are excited to offer the first online version! Dates will remain the same: June 1-3, 2020. We will use Zoom as our platform. We are working with our education technology staff to help ensure that the institute retains its dynamic, interactive, “workshop” character from previous years in face-to-face formats.

If you have registered for COTE but feel that an online format does not meet your needs as a participant, we will provide full refunds for all requests received by May 15, 2020. You can submit your request to lindy.norman@duke.edu.

With the decision to move online, we have decided to expand enrollment our enrollment. If any of your colleagues were interested but couldn’t make the trip, please share with them that the online option is now available.

Join us this summer! http://bit.ly/COTE2020

Leaders in OT have for years charged the profession to revitalize occupation as the center of occupational therapy practice, to uphold the distinct value of the profession. As educators, we take this charge to heart every day in the classroom.

Participants in the COTE Summer Institute will
•Learn and use principles of subject-centered integrative learning to evaluate and (re)design a course and course materials
• Describe the elements, transactions and views of knowledge in the Subject-centered Integrative Learning (SCIL) Model
• Compare and contrast how different views of knowledge and knowledge organization structures produce different approaches to instructional design.
• Evaluate and create learning outcomes, assessments/assignments, activities and content using the Subject-centered Integrative Learning (SCIL) model.
• Explain how the SCIL model supplements generic backward instructional design processes for occupational therapy.
• Apply the SCIL model to curriculum design
