Is it time to talk to someone you love about senior living? Our latest blog offers guidance on how to start the conversation:

Because each situation is unique, a move to senior living is not a one-size-fits-all process. Family dynamics, health considerations, and finances all play a part, and these things aren’t always easy to talk about.

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news about our team! 🎉

Please join us in welcoming Jackson Dauchy to his new role as Social Work Assistant. Many of you may already recognize Jackson from his time with our Health Center Activities Care Partners team, where he brought warmth, creativity, and meaningful engagement to residents in Memory Care. 💙

A 2023 graduate with a focus in gerontology, Jackson is passionate about supporting older adults and is eager to continue learning and growing alongside our residents and team. While he’ll certainly be missed in his previous role, we’re grateful he’ll remain a familiar and friendly presence here at The Forest.

Over the next year, Jackson will continue to grow into this role, with plans to transition into a Social Worker position. We’re so proud to have him on this journey with us—his enthusiasm and dedication are a wonderful addition to our community! 👏

More than 25 years of community

Over 25 years ago, some faculty members and neighbors of Duke University envisioned an exceptional retirement experience near their university setting. They banded together, acquired land near the Duke campus, and created a team to explore the possibilities.

From the outset, the team relied on advice from Duke’s Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, Duke alumni, retired faculty and staff, and local and nationwide retirees to gain a broad perspective of a fulfilled retirement. With insight from these groups and many visits to prominent retirement communities across the country, their dream began to take shape.

The Forest at Duke, Inc. was organized in October 1988 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation to plan, build, own, and manage the new retirement community. As a master campus plan was developed, residences were quickly reserved, and construction began. The first residents were welcomed to their homes in September 1992.
