As Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, many of us are searching for spaces where we can be in community with other BIPOC to experience rest and practice self and collective care. Join Michelle C. Johnson and Shakira B. Bethea for an opportunity to prioritize our well-being and invest in our personal growth. Sanctuary is a day-long retreat for BIPOC to create sacred space, slow down, recover, and reconnect with our most authentic selves. This retreat will include contemplative practices such as meditation, movement, self-reflection, and journaling. It will also include time to share in the large and small groups with individuals who share similar experiences, moments to establish a sense of connection to nature and reflect on how we can bring more rest and soul nourishing activities into our lives.
When you’re struggling, friends and family can be a great support system, but sometimes it’s hard to ask for help.
We should talk about our feelings because it’s ok to not be ok. Reach out to friends, family, neighbors, a warm line, or a crisis line if you want to talk.
Know that you are not alone, help is available, and healing can happen ❤️

Thoughtfully designed to provide rest and reconnection for activists, social change agents, and those creating a positive impact in our world. This retreat is an opportunity to take a much needed break from the demands of the work and other daily tasks to focus on personal mental health, nature, and restoration.
Mental health is no different than physical health. Just as there are practices of doing things to stay physically healthy such as brushing your teeth, eating well, or going to the doctor, there are also things one can do every day or on a regular basis to stay mentally healthy.
This can and will look different for everyone. Remember to be gentle with yourself as shifts are made over time. Grieving the old routine is normal. Take moments to acknowledge the progress of your journey.
Share a practice that you’ve found supportive in the comments below ✨

While 1 in 5 people will experience a mental health condition during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. Here are three tips that can improve your mental health.
1. Eliminate Toxic Influences: An average of 80% of Americans have experienced emotional abuse. Toxic traits can look like manipulation, passive aggressive behavior, self centeredness, and the need to control. These behaviors not only harm others, it also harms the toxic individual.
2. Create a Healthy Routine: It takes an average of 66 days for a behavior to become a habit, but for some it can take up to 8 1/2 months. By creating routines, we organize our days in such a way that taking care of tasks and ourselves becomes a pattern that makes it easier to get things done without having to think hard about them.
3. Connect with others: Research shows it can take 50 hours for someone you don't know that well to turn into a true friend. It’s possible to be surrounded by people and still feel alone. It’s the connections we make with other people that help enrich our lives and get us through tough times, but sometimes it’s hard to know how to make those connections.Try building connections with others at places you already go to or send that random text to check in on someone.

Did you know that it takes about 11 years from the onset of mental illness before seeking care? There are many harmful attitudes and misunderstandings around mental health conditions and mental illness. This can make people ignore their mental health, fuel stigma, and make it harder to reach out for help.
