The Children's Cochlear Implant Center at UNC The little place for big miracles of sound and speech. (Also known as CCCDP/CASTLE)

Home of the University of North Carolina (UNC) Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program through the Ear and Hearing Center. We also administer a state funded grant program to provide funding for hearing devices for children who are deaf and hard of hearing; provide direct auditory therapy to families of children with hearing loss; and train other professionals on using listening and spoken language therapy.

All young children implanted at the CCIC receive a Learning to Listen sound kit, an invaluable set of toys that help guide patients and families as their child learns to listen and speak. With rising costs, supplying each child with a L2L Kit has become a challenge, and our team needs your help!

Last month our very own Erin Thompson traveled to Kenya to work with the Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss ( ). She spent time working with children and their families, while also training local professionals in LSLS techniques.

Erin says the experience was unforgettable, shaped most by the kind and welcoming people she met during her stay. Erin also took some amazing photos while on safari!
