🏳️‍🌈 June is Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈
At Blue Mountain Psychological Services, we celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community not just this month, but every day. We believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and safe in their identity. Whether you're exploring who you are, navigating challenges, or simply seeking a space to feel heard, we’re here to walk with you.

We’re excited that the Raleigh Pride Parade took place just last weekend, bringing joy, visibility, and community together in celebration. For those in Durham, mark your calendars—the Durham Pride Parade will take place this October, and we look forward to continuing the celebration then!

To all our LGBTQIA+ clients, families, and community members—you belong, you matter, and we’re proud to stand with you. 🌈

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

At Blue Mountain Psychological Services, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible dedication, patience, and compassion that teachers bring into the classroom every day.

Teachers are often the first to notice when a child is struggling —academically, emotionally, or socially. They play a vital role in early identification and support, and your partnership with mental health professionals helps children thrive.

To all the teachers who advocate, inspire, and go the extra mile: thank you for being everyday heroes in the lives of our children and teens.

Let’s lift up our educators this week—and every week—with gratitude and support. If you want to support teachers please consider donating at https://www.donorschoose.org/

We have learned this lesson that there is no safe amount of alcohol. Research indicates that about 1 in 20 school-aged children have an FASD.

Is alcohol safe during pregnancy?
There is no known safe amount, no safe time, and no safe type of alcohol to consume while pregnant.

Choosing not to drink alcohol during pregnancy is a proactive step that supports healthy fetal development. As we observe Alcohol Awareness Month, it's a good time to share clear, compassionate, and evidence-based information.

Learn more from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) at niaaa.nih.gov and visit fasdunited.org to explore resources, support, and community.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This month, we stand with individuals and families affected by mental health challenges—and we honor the strength it takes to seek help, speak up, and support one another.

We believe mental health is just as vital as physical health. Whether it's anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, or trauma, you are not alone. Mental wellness is a journey—and assessment is often the first step toward understanding and healing. 🧠💚

Let’s work together to break the stigma, raise awareness, and promote compassionate care for all.

✨ May the 4th Be With You! ✨
We’re celebrating Star Wars Day at Blue Mountain Psychological Services! Just like the Jedi rely on the Force, we believe in the power of the brain to heal, adapt, and grow stronger.

Neuroplasticity is our kind of Force—shaping minds, strengthening connections, and helping individuals thrive through evidence-based care.

Whether you're battling memory issues, attention challenges, or struggle with executive functioning, remember:
“Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon Jinn

Have a stellar day, and May the 4th be with you...always!

🧠 Did You Know? The Brain and Mental Health Connection 🧠

Your brain plays a key role in how you think, feel, and act every day. Stress, trauma, and even sleep patterns can impact brain function, influencing mood, focus, and decision-making.

Here are 3 simple ways to support your mental and cognitive health:

✅ Prioritize Sleep – Your brain needs rest to process emotions and store memories. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.

✅ Practice Mindfulness – Deep breathing, meditation, or even a short walk can reduce stress and improve focus.

✅ Stay Connected – Social interactions strengthen brain pathways and promote emotional well-being. A quick chat with a friend can do wonders!

Take care of your mind—it’s the key to a healthier, happier life! 💙
