"Just as there are times on a winding walk when you can not the see the road ahead, so too will you lose visibility on your soul’s unfolding. If you can find solace in your surrendering to that groundlessness, there is a pleasure possible in this depth of not-knowing, where creativity can use you as a vessel and, for a moment, you can know real freedom in your acquiescence to the numinous." - Toko-pa, Belonging (belongingbook.com)

Rumi's famous poem "The Guest House" reminds me of an critical fact about what it means to be human: I have a lot of characters inside of me, and each has a voice of its own.

Some of those characters and voices I like. Some not so much! But I need to listen to all of them—not censoring the ones I don't like—and try to host a life-giving inner conversation.

In my 2011 book, "Healing the Heart of Democracy" http://tinyurl.com/y6ve8b4t, I argue that practicing hospitality toward "alien" people and viewpoints is key to restoring the civil community on which democracy depends.

Hospitality doesn't mean agreeing with things we don't agree with. It means listening openly and with respect, learning what we can, and responding in ways that build bridges, not walls.

But here's the rub: We can't receive the "alien" respectfully if we can't do the same for the inner voices we don't want to hear. Hospitality, like all human virtues, begins within.

All of this is more easily said than done! But Rumi gives us a great gift—a vivid image that can make the difficult feel possible. Each of us is a "guest house." Our first job is to be good hosts to ourselves: "Be grateful for whoever comes / because each has been sent / as a guide from beyond."

Saturn enters Capricorn, Venus in Sagittarius square Chiron in Pisces, Venus trine Uranus retrograde in Aries – Old hurts around feeling devalued could threaten to take the shine off future plans. Liberate yourself from suffering by opening your heart to alternative paths. If the past is done, let it be done. Move on. Accept reality as it is, for all its faults and shortcomings. Saturn is not concerned with whether life is perfect or even whether it is comfortable. Sometimes it’s about getting up in the morning and doing what needs to be done.

But there's no reason to despair. You are stronger than you realise and there is so much more to learn. Effective management and a sense of humour can work miracles. Each new test becomes a foundation for future achievement. Consider what it is that you want to contribute to this world, the legacy you would like to leave behind. The universe supports your plan. It’s time to get serious. Manifestation begins in the now. The clock is ticking.
