this needs to change!
Eat plants. Whole plants. Nothing but plants. So help your body, all other species, and the planet.
Between half to three-quarters of the calories that the United States' population is consuming comes from C.R.A.P. (Calorie Rich and Processed) food....to quote Jeff Novick, MS, RD and share this important collection of articles on this subject below...
These ultra-processed foods are nutrient-poor and calorie-dense and have been defined as: "Formulations of several ingredients which, besides salt, sugar, oils, and fats, include food substances not used in culinary preparations, in particular, flavors, colors, sweeteners, emulsifiers and other additives used to imitate sensorial qualities of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and their culinary preparations or to disguise undesirable qualities of the final product."
Yum.....not.
If only we could go back to our roots....to pre-industrialization whole plant food consumption, we could likely tackle so many health, environmental, and humane issues that predominate now.
Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices. In any of the infinite combinations possible. That is all we need. All we thrive on. All that we should aim to focus our diet on.
