CNN Health’s latest article shares the story of Ben, a six-year-old who received his cochlear implant at just nine months old.

“When I saw him respond the first time to my voice, to my husband’s voice, it was just like, this is a whole new world for us and for our baby. I would do it again 100 times. This has opened so many doors for our son and for our family," said Ben's mother, Beth.

Today, children as young as seven months can access this life-changing hearing technology, thanks to MED-EL—the only FDA-approved cochlear implant available for infants this young with severe to profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL).

Medical technology company MED-EL announced Thursday that the US Food and Drug Administration has approved expanding the use of its Synchrony cochlear implants to children as young as 7 months who have bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss.

Meet Michael! 👋

Growing up with hearing loss in a family that loved music, Michael always experienced music differently, which eventually led him to stop attending live concerts.

While he initially used a hearing aid, he felt his connection to music, specifically classical music, was missing something.

Now, with cochlear implants in both ears, music and the world around him feel entirely new.

"Recently, I went to a live performance of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, and it almost made me cry. I was amazed by the depth and range of sound, especially the higher notes I had missed before... Hearing with both ears filled me with joy and wonder that I had never experienced with just one hearing aid," said Michael.

Now, Michael attends live performances every week. ❤️🎵
