For his innovative spirit and commitment to excellent patient outcomes, Dr. Kirtley was recently named a Center of Excellence physician by The Institute of Advanced Ultrasound Guided Procedures and Sonex Health.

“Being able to see and transect the whole ligament makes it less likely there will be a return of symptoms,” Dr. Kirtley explains. “Providing a procedure that's curative for the patient as well as streamlined, elegant, and simple for the physician is something we don't have that often in medicine. That's what's revolutionary.”

“It means a lot to me to be recognized,” Dr. Kirtley says. “After years of building my practice, it is an honor to be named a center of excellence. I am committed to offering minimally invasive treatments that provide rapid return to function and doing the right thing for the patient.”

MISSION Registry Data Confirm Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Release Offers Distinct Advantages over Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release.

The MISSION Registry is the largest ever multi-center carpal tunnel release (CTR) study in the United States with over 1,400 patients enrolled. In this publication, the authors compared the 3-month outcomes of patients undergoing ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release (UGCTR) using UltraGuideCTR or endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR).

In comparison to ECTR, UGCTR was associated with:
- Higher use of only local anesthesia (WALANT)
- Smaller incision and more suture-free closure
- Fewer patients using opioids for pain control
- Higher wound satisfaction and fewer wound-related symptoms
- Higher overall satisfaction

Congratulations to Dr. Islam -- Treating 1,000 patients with UltraGuideCTR™!

Dr. Bilal Islam of Emerald Coast Sports Medicine in Panama City, Florida, recently achieved a significant milestone for his combined rheumatology and sports medicine clinic: he has treated over 1,000 patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome with carpal tunnel release (CTR) using ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release (UGCTR).

“One of my favorite parts of the UGCTR technique is explaining to patients what recovery will be like during our initial evaluation and seeing the relief on their faces when they realize how quick it is,” says Dr. Islam. “It’s the simple things we take for granted — like being able to sleep normally, go to work, or pick up coffee cups again — that means the most to our patients,” he adds.

Sonex Health Announces Publication of Largest Multi-Center Study Comparing Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Release (UGCTR) to Open Carpal Tunnel Release

- Better improvements in symptom severity and functional status
- Higher resolution of wound sensitivity and pain

Our Story

Committed to Producing Technology that Advances and Improves Healthcare

“Refined simplicity” is the guiding principle behind Sonex Health, to drive efforts and innovations that result in elegant, effective solutions to some of the healthcare system’s most pressing needs.

Mayo Clinic physicians Darryl Barnes, MD and Jay Smith, MD and business operations expert Aaron Keenan founded Sonex Health in 2014. The three were brought together by a shared desire to create safe, effective means of treating common orthopedic conditions that would improve patient safety while decreasing procedural costs. Sonex Health, LLC has developed the SX-One MicroKnife® to treat carpal tunnel syndrome in a novel fashion, termed Micro-invasive Carpal Tunnel Release. This innovation allows carpal tunnel release, a procedure that once took place in an operating room, to be safely and effectively performed in a surgery center or office setting, resulting in rapid patient recovery, improved cosmesis, and reduced costs.

Sonex Health brings together a well-respected and experienced team of individuals who have played key roles in creating, developing, and marketing medical technologies that have positively impacted the lives of millions of patients. This team is committed to bringing their proven talent to Sonex Health, LLC, to successfully and expeditiously produce and market the new SX-One MicroKnife®.
