Congratulations to Dr. Islam -- Treating 1,000 patients with UltraGuideCTR™!

Dr. Bilal Islam of Emerald Coast Sports Medicine in Panama City, Florida, recently achieved a significant milestone for his combined rheumatology and sports medicine clinic: he has treated over 1,000 patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome with carpal tunnel release (CTR) using ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release (UGCTR).

“One of my favorite parts of the UGCTR technique is explaining to patients what recovery will be like during our initial evaluation and seeing the relief on their faces when they realize how quick it is,” says Dr. Islam. “It’s the simple things we take for granted — like being able to sleep normally, go to work, or pick up coffee cups again — that means the most to our patients,” he adds.

Sonex Health Announces Publication of Largest Multi-Center Study Comparing Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Release (UGCTR) to Open Carpal Tunnel Release

Published in the Journal of Hand Surgery Global Online, the study demonstrates that UGCTR offers distinct advantages over open carpal tunnel release.

Some advantages of UGCTR include:
- More procedures using only local anesthesia
- Shorter incision resulting in less need for sutures
- Less postprocedural opioid use
- Better improvements in symptom severity and functional status
- Higher resolution of wound sensitivity and pain
- Higher wound satisfaction

Our Story

Committed to Producing Technology that Advances and Improves Healthcare

“Refined simplicity” is the guiding principle behind Sonex Health, to drive efforts and innovations that result in elegant, effective solutions to some of the healthcare system’s most pressing needs.

Mayo Clinic physicians Darryl Barnes, MD and Jay Smith, MD and business operations expert Aaron Keenan founded Sonex Health in 2014. The three were brought together by a shared desire to create safe, effective means of treating common orthopedic conditions that would improve patient safety while decreasing procedural costs. Sonex Health, LLC has developed the SX-One MicroKnife® to treat carpal tunnel syndrome in a novel fashion, termed Micro-invasive Carpal Tunnel Release. This innovation allows carpal tunnel release, a procedure that once took place in an operating room, to be safely and effectively performed in a surgery center or office setting, resulting in rapid patient recovery, improved cosmesis, and reduced costs.

Sonex Health brings together a well-respected and experienced team of individuals who have played key roles in creating, developing, and marketing medical technologies that have positively impacted the lives of millions of patients. This team is committed to bringing their proven talent to Sonex Health, LLC, to successfully and expeditiously produce and market the new SX-One MicroKnife®.
