Today, in honor of Black History Month, we would like to highlight a courageous leader whose commitment to community-centered care continues to shape how we support aging adults here in Minnesota.

𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐐. 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 was a nationally respected educator, writer, and civil rights leader whose work emphasized dignity, education, and community support for Black families and elders. While she was not a healthcare professional, her influence shaped the values—education, community responsibility, and stewardship—that later inspired institutions like the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center of Saint Paul (HQB), founded in 1929.

For nearly a century, the center has provided programs and services that support older adults and youth, connect cultures and generations, and strengthen community care for all. In the past several decades, it has expanded its outreach and services to support the evolving needs of the Twin Cities’ Hmong, Somali, Latino, and other diverse communities.

The Fire element is associated with passion, intensity, visibility, and transformation. It brings heat, boldness, and emotional force. Together, the Fire Horse forms one of the most dynamic and powerful combinations in the 60-year zodiac cycle. The Year of the Fire Horse is often viewed as especially energetic, fast-paced, and change-oriented. It tends to symbolize periods of bold movement, decisive action, and heightened personal drive.

This week’s theme was 🌹𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒅🌹, and our communities were bursting with Valentine’s spirit! Staff and residents dressed in shades of red and pink, and many wore their hearts on their sleeves AND on the literal fronts of their tees.

Today, on Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the love, kindness, and sense of community that make Monarch so special. When you love the work you do and the people you serve, it shows — in the smiles, the laughter, and the little day-brightening moments that brighten someone’s day.

Monarch Healthcare Management was proud to celebrate the completion of a comprehensive 8-month renovation yesterday at one of our flagship skilled nursing facilities, Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato. Our third Open House in one week!

At Monarch, we believe the physical environment should reflect the excellence of care delivered within it. This comprehensive remodel refreshed nearly every space throughout the building — from administrative offices and the entryway to the dining hall, library, and residents’ rooms. Updates include new flooring and wall guards throughout, modern light fixtures and moldings, fresh paint, and a brighter, on-brand color palette featuring Monarch’s signature orange accents. Investments like this one ensure our communities continue to set the standard for quality, comfort, and professionalism.

We were honored to host a ribbon cutting alongside Greater Mankato Growth, with members of the Monarch executive team, representatives from Care Providers of Minnesota, and many community partners in attendance.

Guests enjoyed catered refreshments and guided campus tours led by the site administrator, Macy Booker, and regional director of operations, John Schlack. On Tuesday, we proudly celebrated another beautifully renovated Monarch facility, The Estates at Delano, with an Open House and Ribbon Cutting alongside the Delano Area Chamber of Commerce.

This comprehensive remodel refreshed the campus from top to bottom — including brand new flooring throughout, wall guards to help protect and preserve the updated environment for years to come, fresh drywall and paint, updated wall art and décor, new furniture, enhanced lighting, a new nurses' desk, and a welcoming entryway redesign. The building's historic character was thoughtfully blended with a clean, modern aesthetic.

We are proud to continue investing in our facilities to ensure the physical environment reflects the quality care, dignity, and professionalism delivered inside our walls every day.

This week, we were proud to celebrate a special milestone at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living. ✂️🏠✨

On Monday, February 9, Mala Strana officially unveiled its newly remodeled rehabilitation center—designed to feel clean, bright, and modern for the residents and families we serve. The celebration included a ceremonial ribbon cutting with the New Prague Chamber of Commerce, followed by a social hour with snacks and refreshments.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to mark this exciting new chapter for Mala Strana. We’re grateful for the community support and look forward to welcoming residents and families into this refreshed space.

This recognition reflects the facility’s commitment to community excellence and aligns with Monarch's mission to provide quality care and five-star customer service (with a smile!) to Minnesota seniors—we are so proud! The facility was also recognized last month by the Monarch Healthcare Management executive team as the Monarch Facility of the Year. 🏆
