Back at it with another Wellness Wednesday! 🌿💊💚

You've probably heard about fish oil. Of all the supplements out there, it's one of the most commonly consumed. But what exactly does it do? Let's ~dive~ right into it! 🐟

Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are "healthy fats" and good for the heart and the brain. ❤️🧠 Fish oil primarily supports heart health by reducing triglycerides and blood pressure and slowing plaque buildup in arteries. Omega-3s are essential for brain function, and research even suggests some mental health conditions like depression may be prevented or its symptoms improved by having higher levels of omega-3s. Humans cannot produce Omega-3 fatty acids in the body, making fish oil a crucial dietary source.

Fish oil supplements are recommended for individuals who:
👉 Have high triglycerides or coronary heart disease
👉 Do not include at least two servings of fatty fish per week in their diet
👉 Are pregnant or breastfeeding
👉 Have rheumatoid arthritis

💡 FUN FACT: Studies show that an estimated 95% of Americans do not get enough omega-3s from their diets.

Are you hesitant to use sleep medications? Maybe a supplement is a better fit. Today we want to tell you about Magnesium Glycinate!
This supplement, made from the combination of magnesium (a mineral) and glycine (an amino acid), helps calm the nervous system, therefore aiding in better sleep 😴, muscle relaxation 💪, and anxiety reduction 😌.

The best way to get magnesium is through diet, but you might want to consider a supplement if you have:
👉 Insomnia or restless leg syndrome
👉 Frequent muscle cramping
👉 A gastrointestinal condition like Crohn's or Celiac disease

💡 FUN FACT: Magnesium, when combined with glycinate, is more easily absorbed in the body compared to other forms of magnesium that are more likely to cause upset stomach.

Welcome to our first Wellness Wednesday! 🌿💊💚

Each week we'll be highlighting a different supplement that we carry at Wagner Drug. From immune support to heart health 💪❤️, gut balance to better sleep 🦠😴, there's a supplement that may be beneficial to you and available over the counter!

Today we want to tell you about nitric oxide!
Produced naturally in the body, nitric oxide's main job is to relax the blood vessels, which increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure. It is also beneficial for athletic performance as it enhances oxygen delivery to tissues which may help alleviate muscle soreness and fatigue.

Nitric oxide levels in the body significantly decreases with age. Studies show production drops roughly 50% by age 40 and up to 85% by 60.

A few signs of low nitric oxide:
👉 High blood pressure
👉 Cold hands and feet
👉 Chronic fatigue
👉 Cognitive "brain fog"
👉 Erectile dysfunction

💡 FUN FACT: Consuming leafy greens (like spinach, arugula) and beets helps boost
nitric oxide production, as they are high in nitrates.
