With MinneSNOWta fully in affect, here is a reminder on some winter safety tips to help avoid any complications during our blistery cold times!
How to avoid; Slips, trips and falls
SLOW DOWN - Make sure you are giving yourself enough time to slow down while traveling in the winter weather
Ice melt - Stock up on ice melt early in the season so you have it when you need it to create a stable walking surface
Proper footwear - Dress accordingly to make sure your feet stay warm and have proper tread for the conditions
Lighted paths - Make sure you illuminate your walkways so you can visualize if the conditions are slippery
Use railings - Hold onto railings if they are present to avoid falls
Penguin walk - Add a little waddle to your walk to keep your center of balance close to your body
How to avoid; Shoveling injuries
SLOW DOWN - Once again slow down, and make sure you are taking breaks to avoid overexertion
Wear layers - It is much easier to take layers off than go add more while shoveling
Push not lift - Pushing the snow with your body weight will decrease strain when opposed to lifting and throwing snow
Recruit help - It is okay to ask for help! Ask a family member or neighbor for help shoveling if you need it
Less twisting - Try throwing snow straight forward and not twisting when lifting to avoid strain on low back musculature
And as always you can call us at 507-257-3726 for any further question or if you would like to be seen by a provider at Olson Family Chiropractic!
