Upon joining my new hospital, I was introduced to a gentleman who greeted me with the statement, “If not for your hospital, I would not be alive today.” He continued to explain some years earlier he experienced all the symptoms of a heart event. The EMTs arrived and rushed him to the local hospital where he received life saving emergency treatment. Once stabilized, he was transferred to a facility where he received heart surgery. His cardiologist assured him if it were not for the quick response and treatment he received at the local hospital he would not have survived.
