🧧Happy Lunar New Year!🧧

As we enter the Year of the Fire Horse, we embrace a season of energy, courage, and forward movement. The Fire Horse symbolizes passion and independence-a reminder that healing, too, requires both boldness and self-compassion as we chart our own paths.

Whether you're navigating family gatherings, honoring cultural traditions, or finding your own way to mark this transition, we recognize that the new year can bring up complex feelings. Growth doesn't always follow a straight path, and that's okay!

We're here to support you through life's gallops and pauses alike, offering you a space to process, reflect, and move towards the future you envision.

🧀 It's National Cheese Lovers Day!🧀

Just like a good cheese board offers variety-sharp cheddar, creamy brie, tangy goat cheese-our emotional lives are complex and multi-layered too.

Sometimes we need space in order to process the sharp moments, sit with the softer feelings, and understand the full range of what we are experiencing.

Therapy is about embracing all the layers of who we are, not just the parts that are easy to share.

So today, whether you're savoring some aged gouda or just appreciating this delightfully yummy holiday, remember: you deserve support that honors every part of your story!

Happy Friday! With the recent snowfall and the weekend approaching quickly, the opportunities to give our mental health a positive, stress free few days is rampant. Here's a few ways we can use this recent snowfall to our advantage:

Calming the mind: Snow muffles sound, creating a quiet, serene environment that reduces noise pollution and promotes calm.

Boost mood: Physical activities like skiing and sledding in the snow release endorphins, enhancing happiness and energy.

Increases vitamin D: Sunlight exposure during outdoor activities helps produce vitamin D, crucial for mental health

Provides a break: Snow is an excuse to step away from routines and engage in self care such as being outdoors, enjoy cozy relaxation indoors away from the cold, and improving sleep quality.

The holidays can take a toll on us, whether we be missing someone this holiday season or prioritize those around us. Here are a few tips to help get through this season and welcome the new year with positivity:

Manage expectations- Reduce time spent on social media exposure curated to "perfect" lives that fuel comparison and build anxiety
Practice self compassion- Be kind to yourself! Getting through this time is an achievement. If you wouldn't criticize a friend for something, don't criticize yourself either.
Focus on wins- Reflect on your own accomplishments from this year, big or small. All accomplishments deserve to be celebrated.
Nourish yourself- Stay hydrated and eat balanced meals, the fuel we put into our bodies has a direct impact on our emotions.
Seek Support- Don't hesitate to talk to someone or seek professional help if you are feeling persistently overwhelmed or down. There are countless resources at our disposal to help us!

Have a wonderful New Year celebration!

Reminder: We will be closed Thursday, January 1st, and will return to office on Friday January 2nd.

Mental health and Utah winters

*Keep being social: It is known that socializing helps us mentally. During our Utah winters people tend to stay hunkered down indoors - because it is freezing outside! Well, embrace it. Keep pushing to be social regardless of Mother Nature: Book clubs, game nights, cooking parties, indoor sports or exercise classes are fun. Be creative with this so you don’t feel isolated this year.

*Keep being physical: During these cold months you can still push for it. Generally, you can just bundle up and do 75 percent of summer activities. Or… temporarily switch to an indoor version of activity. I, for example play pickleball at the parks in summer and at indoors places during winter.

*Keep getting sunlight: Utah is known for low UVB rays in winter. Besides vitamin D, we are missing out on the happy chemicals like endorphin and serotonin. You can get a light therapy lamp for under 20.00 on Amazon (EasyHome Light Therapy Sun Lamp). You can “open up the dirty window” like in the song Unwritten. And last but not least you can venture out of the house even when it is colder – you have to walk the dog anyways :)
