We are so proud of one of Earle’s finest nurses! Keep being you, Kristy!
Hospital Service First Champion Kristy Gibbs-RN
Nomination:
Every day she was my brother in law’s nurse she would come in the room with a pleasant tone to her voice, go to his bedside, address him personally, do her assessment or checks, look around and straighten up, and make sure his environment was neat and clean. She would then take the time to sit down in the chair in his room to just visit with him.
Because of her caring and compassionate manner she was able to bring some joy to my brother in law during a time he was very ill and knew he was dying. He made the comment to me every time we saw each other of how kind she was and "she always treats me like a human being and takes time to just talk to me and she just doesn't know how much that really means to me". He mentioned numerous times of how he enjoyed and looked forward to when she walked in the door because it made him smile and feel better while she was in the room with him.
My brother in law was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and Liver Cancer, and he was unable to keep anything down due to enlarged lymph nodes pressing against his esophagus not allowing oral intake to go past the area. He was very sick and knew he had a tough decision to make during this stay and we believe it was through her true compassion and caring attitude he was able to make the final decision to go on Hospice.
