We are lucky enough to do exactly what we love in our practice. šŸ’•

And that means that we do the same for our clients.

A child’s occupation is play. So we use play to address their goals.

Scott has spent the past three years diving deeply into researching the use of role playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons, to decrease social anxiety in adolescents.

The monopoly game šŸ‘†is an example of using something that a student loves. He is an extremely reluctant writer but through a game, I am able to get him to stretch his creativity muscles and think a little outside the box.

He knew that spelling didn’t matter in this case. He was just writing for pure pleasure. We began by making additional’Chance’ and ā€˜Community’ cards - and then I’ll slowly ask more from him.

In a game like Monopoly, you can do so many things that encourage reading and writing.

Each property can have a backstory.

And you and your child can write about the renters, the landlord, what the property looks like, how the house is decorated, its heating system, etc.

It’s all fair game!

The sky truly is the limit.

There is nothing that stops you from being as creative as you or your child wants to be.

And once you start with one game, this creativity will bleed into other games and others, and soon you’ll see that you can incorporate literacy into almost anything you do!

Learning to read doesn’t have to just happen in the classroom. There are lots of things that you can do to encourage reading, and reading readiness - at home, every day, gently and joyfully, with ease, and through PLAY.

Put the screens down and pull out a board game. 🤩

I’m giggling……But its importance can’t be overstated:

ā€Therapeutic Use Of Selfā€. 🌿

This occupational therapy tenant bleeds into everything we do.

A child can’t learn when they are in fight or flight, so we work with them from the inside out.

We focus on calming an anxious nervous system ….. before we ever tackle learning.

Therapeutic use of self guides everything we do… In our practice and in life.

What goes this mean for YOU?

Easy: through the use of ourselves, our personalities, our intuition and years of experience, we help you transform your home life from stressed-out to SERENE. ā˜ŗļø …. And your child starts liking school … and reading.

Sounds pretty good, right?

We are so lucky to do what we love!

And we love our clients 🩷.

How lucky are we? ! šŸ¤“šŸ¤©
