⁉What is measles & why it’s dangerous?

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through respiratory droplets and can linger in the air for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves a space.

Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. A few days later, a rash appears and typically lasts 5–6 days.

Complications can be serious: pneumonia, brain swelling, hearing loss, other infections, hospitalization, and in rare cases death.

‼South Carolina

In 2025, South Carolina’s Department of Public Health reported 16 confirmed measles cases in the state.

Several cases have been linked to exposures in school settings, and unvaccinated students are being quarantined when exposed.

Health authorities warn that immunity levels (i.e. vaccination coverage) in some communities are below what’s needed for “herd” protection.

⭐How to protect yourself & your loved ones:

Get vaccinated (or confirm immunity) The MMR vaccine is the primary protection. Two doses are about 97% effective; one dose is ~93% effective.

Check vaccination history / get missing doses-If anyone in your household never had their MMR, or only had one dose, talk to your doctor about getting up to date. In outbreak settings, even older children or adults with uncertain vaccine history may benefit from vaccination.

Isolate suspected or confirmed cases Someone with measles should avoid being around others, especially for ~4 days after the rash appears, to reduce spread.

⭐Cover your mouth/nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands often.
- In indoor spaces, increase ventilation (open windows, use HVAC/air filtration) when possible.
- Avoid crowded settings if there’s a known exposure.
If you or someone in your household develops fever, cough, runny nose, or rash, especially after possible exposure, contact your health provider and mention “measles exposure.” Early detection helps limit spread.

This interactive class explores the powerful connection between food and mood, inviting participants to reflect on how what they eat can impact their emotional well-being in both the short and long term.

Through guided tasting experiences featuring a variety of foods (sweet, salty, textured, and more), participants will engage their senses and spark meaningful conversations about how different foods make them feel.

Each person will receive a food mood journal to track their experiences, emotions, and insights throughout the session and beyond.

The goal is to foster awareness around eating habits, promote healthier food choices, and understand how nutrition influences mood in everyday life—at work, at home, and over time.

This class will be lead by;

Healthcare You Can Trust

Verity is a family doctor’s office that operates differently. We work directly with patients in order to provide more accessible, better quality care that exceeds the current standards. We achieve this at an affordable cost by eliminating the middle-man (your insurance company). Since 80% of healthcare happens at the primary care level we want to assure that you can see your doctor when you need to, that your concerns are addressed at each visit and that you are directed to the appropriate resources when further care is needed. But that is not all. Because our lifestyle choices are so exquisitely important for our health, we also include lifestyle counseling and group classes to help our patients make changes once they are ready. And because healthcare should be affordable, we do this for less than the cost of a typical cell phone bill. If you are ready for a change, and you can handle the truth, then you need Verity.
