Meet Dominique, LSW- a therapist at New Dawn.

Hi! Here are some facts about me:
Outside of being a therapist, the most important role I hold is being a mom to my two beautiful little girls. They are truly my whole world, and being their mom has taught me so much about patience, resilience, and unconditional love. Those lessons carry into the way I show up in every part of my life, including the work I do with clients.
The beach is my happy place. It’s where I feel most grounded and at peace. Something about the sound of the waves and the calmness of the ocean helps me reset and reconnect with myself. Music is another huge part of my life. When I put my headphones in and get lost in a good song, it feels like I’ve entered my own little world, and I always come away feeling recharged. .
As a therapist, I strive to create a space that feels comfortable, supportive, and without pressure. My goal is for clients to leave each session feeling just a little lighter and more ready to take on whatever comes next. I believe in transformation, but I also know true change takes time, so I work to make the process feel approachable rather than overwhelming. I also recognize that therapy is never a “one size fits all” process. Each person is unique, which is why I tailor goals and modalities to fit individual needs. Whether it’s drawing from different approaches or adjusting the pace of our work together, my focus is always on what best supports you. I want therapy to feel like a collaborative journey, where ease in communication and a welcoming atmosphere set the stage for meaningful growth.

A common myth is that vulnerability is a sign of weakness.

However, when asked to think of times that we have felt vulnerable or emotionally exposed, we are actually recalling times of great courage.

This courage in facing vulnerability can also have a positive impact on your connection with others.

We can practice this courage in relationships by asking someone what they are thinking, by sharing our feelings with another person, or by asking for forgiveness.

Try one of these suggestions (or choose your own personal vulnerability goal) and be proud of your bravery when you do.

This young woman is not only the youngest inaugural poet in US history, she is also an example of great resiliency. At a young age, Amanda Gorman was diagnosed with auditory processing disorder and has struggled with speech articulation throughout her life. She has framed this experience as what made her determined to express herself and to become a storyteller.

She is proof that “there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it; if only we’re brave enough to be it.”
