Rest is a form of self-care. It doesn't always have to look like sitting in front of the TV for hours, but sometimes it does. Sometimes rest is also working on a creative project, spending time with friends, or going to a sound bath or yoga class.
Don't try to justify the needs of your body and spirit. Sometimes the mind can hijack us into old patterns or conditionings that once served us but no longer work.
Today I caught myself in an old pattern of neglecting rest because I was trying to justify my need to take a break with made up metrics about how much work I've done this week or what still needs to get done around the house. I say "made up" because none of those things actually change the fact that I need rest, they only support a closed system of suffering where I will be too tired to get things done but judge myself for not doing them or try anyway and make mistakes!
You often hear the phrase "we aren't robots" when it comes to topics like this, but the thing is, even robots would need to recharge! How many times have you experienced your computer or phone battery dying while you were in the middle of a task? Our devices don't keep running on an empty battery just because there are things to do.
So let's all make a pact that we won't even let ourselves get to the point that our battery craps out on us anymore. Let's take the rest when the message is received, so that we can go on to take care of our responsiblities with life force and ease.
Don't over-analyze the messages of your body, take them at face value and give yourself what you need. You deserve it. π§‘
