Everyone remembers Rosa Parks, but not everyone knows about Claudette Colvin.

At just 15 years old, Claudette refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus—nine months before Rosa Parks made history. She was arrested for standing up (and sitting down) for her rights, long before the world was ready to listen to a young Black girl’s voice.

Claudette’s courage helped lay the groundwork for the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the civil rights victories that followed. Her story reminds us that change is often sparked by everyday people—sometimes very young people—who refuse to accept injustice.

Claudette Colvin was just 15 when she was arrested in 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. The Civil Rights icon...

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose courage and vision reshaped our nation. His work reminds us that civil rights are not just history—they are a continuing responsibility.

Dr. King taught us that justice requires action, that equality demands persistence, and that every voice has the power to create change. As we reflect on his message, may we recommit ourselves to building communities rooted in dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Let’s carry that truth forward in how we treat one another, how we show up for our neighbors, and how we work toward a more inclusive future.

Honoring the past. Continuing the movement.
