Bringing home a new baby is exciting—but for your toddler, it can also feel confusing, emotional, and even a little scary.

Toddlers thrive on predictability, and a new sibling changes their entire world: new sounds, new routines, and a new person sharing your attention. While this transition is completely normal, you might find them showing clinginess, regressions, or meltdowns during this transition. The good news? With empathy and planning, you can help your toddler feel just as loved, secure, and included as ever.

Here’s how to help ease your toddler’s transition when welcoming a new baby:

1️⃣ Let your partner care for the baby while you handle bedtime with your toddler.
Familiar routines are comforting. Keeping bedtime rituals intact helps your toddler feel grounded and reassured that they still have a special place in your world.

2️⃣ Set aside short pockets of 1:1 time each day.
Even ten minutes of undivided attention—reading a book, playing a game, or having a snack together—helps your toddler feel seen and valued. Quality matters far more than quantity.

3️⃣ Invite your toddler to help with the baby.
Simple tasks—like fetching a diaper or singing softly—turn potential jealousy into pride. It helps them feel capable, connected, and part of the new family dynamic.

Your toddler isn’t acting out—they’re adjusting. And with the right tools, this season can be one of deep growth and bonding for your entire family.

Our Parenting Preschoolers Consults offer expert, compassionate guidance to help you navigate big transitions with confidence. We’ll help you:

Understand your toddler’s behavior and emotions

Prepare for sibling introductions

Create routines that balance attention and connection

Build confidence and calm in daily life

Returning to work doesn’t have to mean the end of your breastfeeding journey—it just means preparing in a new way.

If you’re planning to continue pumping once you’re back at work, one of the most important steps you can take is to talk with your employer before your first day back. Understanding your rights and setting up a plan early helps you protect your feeding goals and make the transition smoother for both you and your baby.

Here’s what every working and breastfeeding parent should know:

🍼 Federal law protects your right to pump at work.
Under the PUMP Act, most employees are entitled to reasonable break time and a private space (that’s not a bathroom) to express milk for up to one year after birth.

💼 You don’t have to choose between professionalism and parenthood.
You can have an open, proactive conversation with your supervisor or HR team about your schedule, privacy needs, and storage options. Most workplaces are eager to support parents once they know what’s needed.

📅 Preparation makes all the difference.
Knowing how to manage your pumping schedule, milk storage, and supply maintenance while balancing meetings, commutes, and daycare drop-offs can ease the overwhelm of those first few weeks back.

Our Return to Work Consults help you navigate all of this with clarity and confidence. Led by experienced RN IBCLCs, we’ll help you:

✔️ Create a realistic pumping plan that fits your workday
✔️ Learn safe milk storage and transport guidelines
✔️ Communicate effectively with your employer about your rights and needs
✔️ Transition smoothly between home and work without losing progress or supply

Whether you’re heading back to the office, hospital, or classroom—support and strategy make all the difference.

To the mom who feels like she “got nothing done” today — you did everything that mattered.

You might see a messy house and an unchecked to-do list.
Your baby sees warmth, comfort, and love.

And that’s everything. You’re doing more than enough, mama.

Your milk supply is built on one simple, powerful principle: demand creates supply.

Whether you’re exclusively breastfeeding, pumping, or doing a combination of both, frequent and effective milk removal is what signals your body to keep producing milk. Skipping feeds or long stretches without stimulation can cause supply to dip—especially in the early weeks when your body is learning exactly how much milk your baby needs.

So, how do you build and protect your supply?

🍼 Feed or pump at least 8–12 times in 24 hours.
That’s roughly every 2–3 hours around the clock in the newborn stage. Think of each session as a message to your body: “Keep the milk flowing.”

⏱️ Don’t watch the clock—watch your baby.
Feed on demand. Hunger cues—rooting, sucking on hands, stirring—are your baby’s way of communicating that it’s time.

💧 Empty breasts = happy hormones.
The more milk you remove, the more prolactin (the milk-making hormone) your body releases. In other words, supply depends on removal—not magic.

😴 And yes, night feeds matter.
Your prolactin levels peak overnight. Skipping those feeds too early can unintentionally impact supply.

If your baby seems unsatisfied after feeds, your breasts feel overly full or empty quickly, or pumping feels confusing—don’t guess. That’s exactly where professional lactation support makes a difference.

Our Lactation Consults are led by experienced IBCLCs who provide personalized, evidence-based guidance to help you meet your breastfeeding goals—whether that’s exclusive nursing, pumping, or a combination that works for your family.

The third trimester is the perfect time to prepare for one of the most important parts of your postpartum journey—breastfeeding.

While most parents focus on labor and delivery, few realize that how you prepare before birth can make all the difference in your feeding experience after baby arrives. Building knowledge and confidence now helps you start strong, reduce stress, and enjoy those first precious days with your newborn.

Here are 3 things every expectant mom should do in the third trimester to prepare for breastfeeding:

1️⃣ Schedule a Prenatal Breastfeeding Consult or Class
Meeting with an IBCLC before delivery helps you understand what’s normal in the first days, how to latch and position your baby, and what to expect once your milk comes in. It’s one of the best ways to prevent challenges before they begin.

2️⃣ Create a Cozy Nursing Spot at Home
Choose a quiet space with good support and easy access to water, snacks, and pillows. The goal? Comfort and calm—for both you and your baby.

3️⃣ Read “The Nursing Mother’s Companion”
A gentle, informative guide that answers common questions and empowers you to feed with confidence.

Preparing before birth allows you to enter postpartum with clarity instead of confusion. You’ll recognize hunger cues, understand early feeding patterns, and feel confident that your body and baby know what to do.

Our Prenatal Breastfeeding Consults are led by experienced RN IBCLCs who tailor each session to your unique goals and questions. You’ll leave feeling ready—with practical tools, expert guidance, and reassurance every step of the way.

Did you know your baby can safely try up to 100 different foods by their first birthday?

It may sound ambitious—but introducing a wide variety of foods early on helps support nutrition, reduce picky eating later, and even lower the risk of food allergies. Variety is one of the best gifts you can give your little one as they learn to eat.

The goal isn’t quantity for quantity’s sake—it’s exposure. Every bite builds confidence, coordination, and curiosity. And by introducing diverse textures and flavors during the first year, you’re laying the foundation for a lifetime of adventurous, balanced eating.

Here’s how to set your baby up for success when starting solids:

🥣 Start with readiness, not a date. Look for signs your baby is ready—sitting upright, showing interest in food, and loss of the tongue-thrust reflex. Most babies are ready around 6 months.

🌈 Offer variety early and often. Rotate through fruits, veggies, grains, proteins, and healthy fats. Exposure is everything—flavors, colors, and textures all count.

🥑 Don’t fear mess or repetition. Babies learn by playing with food. Repeated exposure (sometimes 10–15 times) helps them develop trust and acceptance.

💧 Keep milk feedings central. Breastmilk or formula remains your baby’s primary source of nutrition until age one—solids are for exploration and learning.

Feeling unsure where to start—or overwhelmed by the “dos and don’ts”? You’re not alone.

Our Intro to Solids Consults are led by experienced RN IBCLCs who provide expert, evidence-based guidance tailored to your baby’s age, readiness, and family goals. You’ll learn:

Signs your baby is ready for solids

How to safely introduce allergenic foods

Balancing nursing or formula with solids

First food ideas and meal planning for busy parents

One of the most common questions new parents ask is—“How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?”

In those first weeks, it’s easy to worry. You can’t see how much your baby is drinking, their feeding patterns may change daily, and everyone seems to have different advice. The good news? Your baby gives you clear signs—they just take a little practice to read.

Here’s what to look for:

1️⃣ Frequent, effective feeding – Newborns typically feed 8–12 times in 24 hours. You’ll see rhythmic sucking and hear gentle swallowing.
2️⃣ Content after feeds – A baby who’s getting enough milk will relax afterward—open hands, calm body, and often drift to sleep.
3️⃣ Plenty of wet and dirty diapers – Expect at least 6 wet diapers and several bowel movements daily by the end of the first week.
4️⃣ Steady weight gain – Your baby should return to birth weight by about 2 weeks and continue gaining consistently after that.
5️⃣ Softening breasts after feeds – This indicates effective milk transfer and good drainage.

If any of these signs feel unclear—or if feedings are painful, stressful, or unpredictable—don’t wait for things to get harder. A certified lactation consultant can help you identify small adjustments that make a big difference.

Our Lactation Consults are led by experienced RN IBCLCs who specialize in helping families find confidence in their feeding journey. We assess latch and milk transfer, review your baby’s feeding cues, and develop a personalized plan that works for your family.

Because the truth is — everything does change.
Your body, your hormones, your identity… it’s a wild ride.

You can love your baby and miss who you were before.
You can be grateful and feel completely overwhelmed.
Motherhood is all of it — but you’re still you, just a new version, learning, growing, and doing something extraordinary every single day.

If your baby wakes every 1–2 hours, this one is for you.

It’s one of the most common questions new parents ask: “When will my baby finally sleep through the night?”

The truth is—there’s no single milestone or magic age when every baby suddenly starts sleeping for long stretches. Night waking is a normal, healthy part of infancy, but understanding why it happens can help you move through it with more peace (and more rest).

In the early months, babies wake often because their sleep cycles are short—about 45 to 60 minutes. These frequent wakings keep them safe, support feeding needs, and help regulate their temperature and breathing. Over time, as their nervous systems mature, they begin to connect sleep cycles and lengthen stretches naturally.

That said, sometimes sleep disruptions linger because of other factors—like growth spurts, developmental leaps, feeding patterns, or changes in routine. And while waking is normal, exhaustion doesn’t have to be.

Our Family Sleep Consults are designed to help you understand what’s biologically normal and where gentle support can make a difference. Led by experienced RN IBCLCs and sleep educators, these consults focus on evidence-based strategies tailored to your baby’s age, temperament, and your family’s needs.

We’ll help you:

Understand normal sleep patterns by stage of development

Identify realistic, age-appropriate expectations for rest

Create sustainable bedtime routines that work for your family

Support night feedings while encouraging longer stretches of sleep

Foster healthy sleep habits

Because good sleep isn’t about training—it’s about teaching calm, connection, and trust.

A great latch is the foundation of successful breastfeeding—affecting everything from your baby’s milk intake to your own comfort and confidence.

When the latch is right, feeding feels natural and pain-free. When it’s off, even slightly, it can lead to soreness, frustration, and worry about supply. That’s why understanding what a great latch looks and feels like is one of the most important things new parents can learn.

Here are 3 simple signs of a great latch:

1️⃣ Chin pressed to the breast – Baby’s chin should make firm contact, with their nose free so they can breathe easily.
2️⃣ Head tilted back, lips flanged out – This allows for a deep latch and full suction, not just on the ni**le but on the breast tissue.
3️⃣ Steady sucking and swallowing – You’ll notice a calm, rhythmic motion with visible jaw movement and quiet swallowing sounds.

Even with the best preparation, every baby is different—and small adjustments in positioning can make a world of difference. Many new parents think breastfeeding should come “naturally,” but it’s a learned skill for both mom and baby. Guidance from an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) can help you build confidence, prevent pain, and support healthy weight gain for your little one.
