Lucas got so excited about helping Santa tonight, he thought he needed some extra oxygen!!

While Lucas may not have needed the extra oxygen, he now knows how to help our patients! Here he is practicing with a non-rebreather! This is just one of many ways our service providers can provide oxygen to patients!

Lucas wishes everyone a safe holiday tonight! He looks forward to helping Santa and all the other elves with delivering Christmas cheer!!

Lucas was wondering why we had so many tourniquets after he learned how to use them this month. Our service providers today showed us our stop the bleed kit. Stuffed full of combat gauze, quick clot, chest seals, trauma shears and touriquets, Lucas will be ready to treat multiple injured patients at once.

To go with the stop the bleed kit, Lucas took a peek at our SMART triage kit. Now Lucas is ready for an MCI (Mass Casualty Incident). He would be able to triage lots of patients based on their injuries.

Each of our trucks come stocked with a stop the bleed kit and a triage bag as well as a command center bag. While we never hope to use these, our service providers are prepared for the worst case scenario, and now Lucas is too!

Lucas wanted to learn how to get patients down flights of stairs today. Here he is sitting in our stairchair.

While it may seem scary at first, Lucas said it was cool!
We use the stairchair anytime we need some help moving patients and don’t have enough space for our stretcher. The stairchair has a special step for your feet and has some straps to keep patients secure! There are handles that we use to steer and move. The stairchair has tracks we use to help guide the chair down stairs easier.

Fun fact: if we need extra hands, our friends in the police and fire departments know how to operate our stairchair too!

Lucas was found studying his medications today! He wanted to know everything after his search in the go bags yesterday!

He now knows what medications we carry and when we can give them.

Did you know: our service providers are all trained in a variety of medications and when they are indicated for patients?
Lucas was most excited to learn about the EpiPen. There are different ones for pediatric and adult patients.

We also carry glucose, Narcan and aspirin. There is a set of medications in our go bags and in our ambulances.

Lucas may be small, but he wanted to help carry the bags for our calls today to help out our service providers!

Each bag serves a special purpose. Our red bag is our go bag, this gets brought to every call, big or small. It has all the necessities from the ambulance in one convenient spot.
The purple bag is our pediatric bag, it has anything we might need if a child has an emergency. Mainly just smaller sized equipment than we use on adults! Finally we have our collar bag, a bag with cervical collars that Lucas learned how to use earlier this month! We bring this bag into any trauma call, it has both adult and pediatric sizes in it!!

Now that Lucas knows the ins and outs of all our gear bags, he’s ready to go for any call that comes!

Lucas is tucked in for a long winter’s nap ❄️
It’s been a long, rainy and stormy day, full of lots of excitement and medical calls. Lucas is glad he can get some rest at our bays while not running calls.
Since we provide emergency coverage to the town 24/7, sometimes our crews will sleep at our headquarters and be ready to take calls when they come in!

Lucas may have overreacted to his slip on the ice today… at least he got some splinting practice in so he’s ready to help any patient that may experience a similar slip in the icy weather.
Splinting helps stabilize possible injuries to help make patients more comfortable and prevent further injury!

We caught Lucas inspecting the Lucas device today. As part of our daily chores, the EHEMS service providers check each piece of equipment to ensure proper operation.

Fun fact, Lucas was actually named after this device!
