Our weekly team spotlight continues and this week we’re excited to recognize Nikole!

We are grateful to have Nikole as part of the EHAA team and appreciate the energy, compassion, and dedication she brings to every shift.

This past Saturday, on 01/31/2026, the East Hampton Ambulance Association hosted a hands on trauma training day focusing on a simulated gunshot wound scenario involving multiple extensive injuries.

Service providers were split into groups of two to three members, mirroring the typical staffing of one ambulance. This ensured the most realistic stimulation possible and emphasized teamwork, communication and decision-making in high stress situations.

Ongoing training like this is extremely important for our providers. These scenarios allow our providers to practice new techniques, maintain continuing education, strengthen teamwork and ensure we are always prepared to deliver the highest level of care to our community.

In this training a high-fidelity simulation mannequin was utilized, which is as close to lifelike as possible. This mannequin was generously donated by a member of our community whose support helps to ensure that our service providers obtain a high level of training. This mannequin also offers unique medical and trauma training capabilities not found anywhere else in our area and will serve the members of EHEMS well for years to come. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the donor for their incredible generosity and continued support.

See the attached Rivereast News Bulletin for a story they wrote up about our training!

❄️Post Storm Report❄️
Throughout the long and cold storm, the East Hampton Ambulance Association remained prepared. During the large snow fall, we had 2 full crews on duty ready to assist the community no matter the weather. During the storm we had two back to back medical calls, utilizing both crews. This made responding to our community quicker and safer for all.

We would like to give our deepest thanks to the East Hampton CT Volunteer Fire Department for responding to all of our medical calls during the storm! The fire department provided their utility truck to plow a path wherever we needed to go.

A big thanks to the Middlesex Health Paramedics who also responded to both medical calls, providing ALS assistance to those in need.

We also want to give a big thanks to the East Hampton Police Department for assisting with the medicals, as well as taking care of other calls for duty in town.

Last but not least, a big thanks to the Town of East Hampton, Connecticut Public Works for all the hard work that was put into taking care of the town during the storm!

East Hampton Ambulance Association would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the East Hampton Rotary Club for their generous donation of $3,716.68 presented by Kyle Chmilecki. This donation will be used towards a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Your continued support helps us better serve and protect our community when it matters most. An AED is a portable, life saving device used during cardiac arrest. It analyzes the heart rhythm and if necessary, delivers an electrical shock to help restore a normal heartbeat. AEDs overall significantly increase a patients chance of survival when used promptly. Due to the Rotary Clubs generosity, we are better equipped to respond to cardiac emergencies and provide the highest level of care to the residences and visitors of East Hampton. Thank you for your commitment to the communities health and safety. Your support truly saves lives.

Please welcome our newest cleared service provider! Tyler has successfully completed the requirements needed in order to become a cleared EMT. Tyler has come to us with a lot of experience from Chester Fire and EMS, and Deep River EMS. Along with the completion of his probation period, he has also become a cleared driver after spending many hours training in the trucks, learning the roads and more. Please join us in congratulating Tyler for all he has accomplished!

Lucas got so excited about helping Santa tonight, he thought he needed some extra oxygen!!

While Lucas may not have needed the extra oxygen, he now knows how to help our patients! Here he is practicing with a non-rebreather! This is just one of many ways our service providers can provide oxygen to patients!

Lucas wishes everyone a safe holiday tonight! He looks forward to helping Santa and all the other elves with delivering Christmas cheer!!

Lucas was wondering why we had so many tourniquets after he learned how to use them this month. Our service providers today showed us our stop the bleed kit. Stuffed full of combat gauze, quick clot, chest seals, trauma shears and touriquets, Lucas will be ready to treat multiple injured patients at once.

To go with the stop the bleed kit, Lucas took a peek at our SMART triage kit. Now Lucas is ready for an MCI (Mass Casualty Incident). He would be able to triage lots of patients based on their injuries.

Each of our trucks come stocked with a stop the bleed kit and a triage bag as well as a command center bag. While we never hope to use these, our service providers are prepared for the worst case scenario, and now Lucas is too!

Lucas wanted to learn how to get patients down flights of stairs today. Here he is sitting in our stairchair.

While it may seem scary at first, Lucas said it was cool!
We use the stairchair anytime we need some help moving patients and don’t have enough space for our stretcher. The stairchair has a special step for your feet and has some straps to keep patients secure! There are handles that we use to steer and move. The stairchair has tracks we use to help guide the chair down stairs easier.

Fun fact: if we need extra hands, our friends in the police and fire departments know how to operate our stairchair too!

Lucas was found studying his medications today! He wanted to know everything after his search in the go bags yesterday!

He now knows what medications we carry and when we can give them.

Did you know: our service providers are all trained in a variety of medications and when they are indicated for patients?
Lucas was most excited to learn about the EpiPen. There are different ones for pediatric and adult patients.

We also carry glucose, Narcan and aspirin. There is a set of medications in our go bags and in our ambulances.

Lucas may be small, but he wanted to help carry the bags for our calls today to help out our service providers!

Each bag serves a special purpose. Our red bag is our go bag, this gets brought to every call, big or small. It has all the necessities from the ambulance in one convenient spot.
The purple bag is our pediatric bag, it has anything we might need if a child has an emergency. Mainly just smaller sized equipment than we use on adults! Finally we have our collar bag, a bag with cervical collars that Lucas learned how to use earlier this month! We bring this bag into any trauma call, it has both adult and pediatric sizes in it!!

Now that Lucas knows the ins and outs of all our gear bags, he’s ready to go for any call that comes!
